Hot damn she sounded great for awhile. You folks must reissue these. I bought the super space drum and a set of new tympani mallets off of the E-bay as is. Bludgeoned to hell. I should send it back but I was a bitch to find this one. She was missing knobs, pot hardware, the red on light had been punched in by drumsticks. I could hear something jingling around inside so I opened it up and there was a green chiclet looking component detached. The external trigger doesn’t work. Id like to be able to turn it on and off with a volume knob. Its loud I plugged it into a 2880 and it was peaking like crazy.

Tooting my own horn, but I’ve been repairing EH stuff for years. Check out http://www.ronsound.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=31&zenid=dd7fb0bc30932ea132ecf39fce3eed63

Ignore the update at the top.

No thank you. So I can’t send it back to factory? That is a bummer. I could take it to my guy in town but I would rather send it in to the factory. It started sounding crackly the other day. The external trigger hasn’t worked since I acquired it and rather than plug and unplug it to turn it on and off I’d like to be able to turn it on and off with a volume knob so I can turn it down as well because its loud.

They don’t offer repair service on vintage units.

At least the good people at EH will tell you to “Buzz off we don’t need yer business”. I have yet to receive any response from those Ampeg folks about parts for my SVT 4 pro. I send them emails regularly and don’t bother with there customer service hot line. when this thing burns out again I won’t spare a drop of piss to save it

I’d rather send vintage EHX gear to Ron for repairs/mods.

It’s not a matter of “Buzz off we don’t need yer business”. It’s more of a matter of they can’t offer support for products that are 25+ years old and no one working there now knows anything about them. They likely do not have the parts or the service info anymore. Think of old EH and new EHX as actually 2 different companies with 10 years separating the demise of one and the start of another.

That being said, I’m often recommended by EHX for repair of vintage units.

I’d just like to reinforce what Ron is saying above, most companies wouldn’t even touch something that’s out of warranty…. I’m always amazed that EHX will (for a small charge) repair stuff that years old. (and good on them for that) but there has to be a limit and I think an old Space Drum is well beyond that limit!!

….it’s a good job we do have people like Ron and Howard around who will keep these vintage units going for many years more.

I can vouch for RonSound’s excellent work. I’ve sent a few EHX units to him for repairs.
