I played through a ‘vintage modern’ (50w head version) in my local shop and I think it’s the best sounding amp range Marshall have made for years….I thought it was much more ‘alive’ sounding than the DSL/TSL range….and generally a more rounded tone….I don’t know much about the music you mention (apart from fu manchu) but I’d think it would be great for any heavy kind of guitar sounds…..it sounded pure :metal: to me….it rocked.
big muff through my DSL50 = not my cup of tea. maybe i just need a tremoverb. that jeff buckley tone
Hey Ramone . . .
ALL THESE CLIPS ARE A *VINTAGE LITTLE BIG MUFF INTO A JCM800 FULL STACK

Is this the type of tone that you got from your DSL50 / Big Muff ?
. . . or simmilar ?
* Just like a regular Big Muff, but with no gain knob – gain is set at Max !
Guitar –>EHX –>Fender Hot Rod in (((stereo))) w Marshall VintageModern 2×12 combo.
For a Sludy-Stoner Doom tone.
Think Fu Manch mixed with Acid King & Electric Wizard.
. . . or would a Marshall DSL401 combo be a better suited Marshall ?
Hey man, I also play doomy, stonery things sometimes, and I bi-amped a Hot Rod with my Tiny Terror… the Fender just doesn’t mesh with the British overdrive tone. Matamps (Green) and old Oranges kick ass for doom/drone/stoner but they’re so goddamn expensive! My dream is to own one of the Mogwai guitarists’ setups, can’t remember whether it was John Cummings or Barry Burns, which is a 70’s Orange OD120 through a Matamp Green 4×12 cab, and a random assortment of EH pedals.
My amp’s pretty awesome for that sort of stuff
Bassman 135
This is my idea of GOOD Stoner-Doom rig :
One day i will have a MATAMP GT1 !
Oh BUGGER . . .
. . . only half of the image can be viewed !
The white amp on the right is a MATAMP !
One day i will have a MATAMP GT1 !
The p90s are a necessity
