    Hello there,

I’ve been looking around trying to get the answer to this question for a little while, quite a few people seem to ask it but it never gets answered.
I finally want to get an expression pedal for a couple of my EHX effects, and I tumbled upon the Boss FV500, which is marketed as a volume/expression controller.

Will it do both simultaneously? (Obviously not SIMULTANEOUSLY simultaneously as it’s only one pedal…) For example, imagine this is my setup:
    – My guitar goes into the input of the Boss, and say, from the output goes into the regular input on my Riddle/Ring Thing, and at the same time, I have a jack from the Boss Expression output to the Riddle/Ring Thing EXP input… (so in short: there are two jacks going from the volume pedal into both the regular input of the effects pedal, and the EXP input)
What would happen? If the Riddle/Ring Thing was disengaged would the Boss act as volume, and as soon as the Riddle/Ring Thing was engaged would it act as expression?

I’m really curious about this, and I think some other people are too, so it would be nice to figure this out!

    Cheers.

That’s a good question. I have the Behringer FCV100 and I was hoping to hook it up in a similar way to what you’re describing. I wanted expr control for my Ring Thing and volume for my Hazarai but unfortunately, that Behringer didn’t work for the Ring Thing at all. So I just bought a Boss EV5 which works quite nicely for its one function.

Yeah… well if it turns out that the Boss can’t do both at the same time, I’ll just have to look at cheaper alternatives for both uses. I mean, it would be a bit of a bummer to buy the Boss FV500 for €95, and then have to buy the Roland/Boss EV for €65…
    Bloody prices.

I was trying to cheap out by using the Behringer and then a Yamaha fc something or other, thinking that $75 for the Boss at guitar center was just too much. But I gave up, bought it, and I really couldn’t be happier. Well, I could be happier, but instead I’ll just drink.

But seriously, can you buy it at a place with a good return policy? Try it out, if it doesn’t work how you want it, send it back.
