I got home from work and was cheching out my local shop’s used stuff online. Came across a BlackFinger. Called them up and I put it on hold. So tomorrow, either during lunch or after work, I’ll be the proud owner of this.
http://www.nstuffmusic.com/p-9693-electroharmonix-blackfingr-used-tube-compressor.aspxI already have a WhiteFinger and a SuperComp, but I’ve been wanting one of these for a while. I thing it was Fender&EHX;, who said it was more subtle than the WhiteFinger? So to anyone, if you have one, chime in.

I hesitate to call it an effect; it’s certainly a stompbox, but there’s really not much ‘effect’ happening. I found it warmed up everything I played while still offering a strong attack, and it somehow managed to smooth my whole sound out without drastically altering anything. I can’t really describe it, actually, so I’ll just say this: I never turned mine off.
Also probably worth mentioning: When mine was still operational (I still have to get around to contacting EHX about that pot I broke), it earned me one of the excruciatingly few tonal compliments I’ve ever received that didn’t have the words ‘crazy’ or ‘gnarly’ in it.

The setting I use most is:
SQSH
LED
Compression: maximum if I want to soften the attack, or about 3:00 if I want to boost the attack
Pre-Gain: 2:00
Post-Gain: 12:00November 26, 2008 at 1:45 am #87718MINGMemberPicked it up before work today. Man, what a long ass day. Going to go clean it up and give it a test run.
What is your opinion on a Screaming Tree Treble Booster and whats a good price?

I definitely wouldn’t spend more than about $80 on the foot pedal version. EHman could tell us more about the circuit, but I’ve heard that it’s only 1 component different from an LPB. Not sure if that’s really true. Mostly, you’d be paying for the collectible status.
November 26, 2008 at 2:48 am #87720MINGMemberHere is a link, no picture though. I emailed them to hold it for me,it is the same place where I got my BlackFinger at. They are closed tomorrow, so I’ll go pick it up on Thursday.
November 26, 2008 at 4:08 am #87722julianModeratorI think you might have to wait til Friday.
I doubt they’d be open on Friday.
I need to go down there sometime and pick up some stuff.
November 26, 2008 at 5:16 am #87726MINGMemberMy gosh, I totally forgot about Thanksgiving. Thanks for the heads up.

yeah, apparently it’s one capacitor different (to make it brighter) ….saying that though you don’t see them much (over here anyway) so if it was cheap enough and in nice condition it might worth picking up.

according to the schematics i’ve found, the circuit is the same as the LBP-1 (as everyone else has said) but the input and output caps are different (0.002uF instead of 0.1uF).

November 27, 2008 at 5:00 pm #87771MINGMemberI’m not sure which version it is. I’m guessing that it is the pedal, considering that is how it is listed. Either way, for $35, that is pretty cheap for a vintage piece.
