Hello. I have two funk tones i’m looking for, maybe the Black Finger can help.
1) Any know how to dial in a gritty funk sound from the Black Finger? I was thinking along the lines of “Shakey Ground” from the Tempations, or “Play that funky music”. The demo song from EHX has that sound too, but i can’t seem to get it right.
2) How about that glassy Nile Rogers sound of the 80’s? Like the super clean tones on Chic or INXS.
Any other pedals/settings that I should be looking at?
Are you using the tube version or the vintage version?
I’m guessing that you are using the tube version.
For a glassier sound:
Compression = max
LED and SQSH
Post Gain = set for unity with the bypass
Pre Gain = Anywhere from 12:00 or more to taste
For grit sound:
Compression = 12:00 or to taste
LAMP and Normal
Post Gain = set for unity with bypass, or higher to boost
Pre Gain = max
Keep in mind that the BlackFinger is probably not the best compressor for that 80s slick/glassy highly compressed sound. I’d go with the White Finger for that.
Thanks a lot! Yea, I’m using the tube version that is currently on the market (not vintage).
