I’m just new to this forum, but since I’m getting deeper in effects, I’d thought I’d just sign up.

On Talkbass there are a lot of threads considering the sick bass tones used in DnB and Dubstep and how difficult it is to achieve them with a bassguitar.

The most difficult sound to this day is the “Wobble”.
Most of the time people use an octaver (OC-2)+Fuzz+Moog MF-101 setup.(someone is building me a MF-101 clone at the moment directly in an expression pedal)
Nice tone, but still not the wobble sound.
A member of Talkbass is in the process of building, as it seems, the ultimate pedal for the wobble tone.

Here are the specs for anyone who’s curious:

    Quote:
    LFO
    -speed knob
    -depth knob
    -waveform knob:
    —sine
    —triangle
    —square
    —ramp up
    —ramp down
    —hypertriangle
    —inverted hypertriangle
—random steps (like the old sample+hold filter sound, robotalk, seek-wah, type stuff)

-multiplier knob: sets the relationship between taps and the speed of the LFO. This lets you tap on the quarter notes and get an LFO that is 4 times faster but still beat locked. Possible settings:
    —1/2 time
    —double time
    —triplets
    —double time triplets
    —quadruple time

-Wave distortion knob: This lets you contort each waveform in interesting ways, and works differently on each wave. Lets you set duty cycle on the square wave, changes the spacing and “hardness” of each waveform

    Filter section:
    -cutoff frequency
    -resonance
    -envelope sensitivity
    -envelope up/down sweep switch
    -2-pole/4-pole switch

Pitch-tracking LFO: speeds up when you play a high note, slows down on low notes. Pitch-tracking LFO is separate from the main LFO, so you can have both happening simultaneously if you want max madness.
-pitch track knob: sets the base speed, which is then augmented by pitch control.

    Expression jacks:
-multiplier: this is where the dubstep happens. This expression control lets you sweep through multipliers, just like the multiplier knob, except when you’re doing it with your foot, it lets you change divisions of the beat while you’re playing. It’s like a speed control, except whether you speed up or slow down you stay locked in tempo. This works whether you set the speed with the speed knob or the tap switch
-cutoff frequency: for slow filter sweeps

    -Tap switch
    -true bypass switch

All of the controllers can be used simultaneously (main LFO, pitch-tracking LFO, envelope, expression pedal).

I wonder if EHX would be interested in building a pedal like this?
Since they are a big company I’d guess they’d be able keeping costs lower, because the pedal above will be completely custom and will take a long time to build.
Since there is a lot of interest on Talkbass considering this pedal, I’d think it would be great if EHX would come up with a sort-like pedal.
Not to mention, it would take live electronic music (Dubstep/DnB/House) to the next level, since bass has such an important role in this genres, but was difficult to reproduce live.

I would buy this (currently imaginary) pedal.

I think a lot of people will since it hasn’t been done before unless with soft-synths.
Those bass-sounds are only the standard in electronic music for 2 years max I guess, so it’s pretty normal there wasn’t a pedal invented for this.
A tremolo with an auto-wah and lots of lows will come close, but is hard to control in a live set-up.
You could use the pedal in other genres to.
Hope EHX read this boards often and are willing to take the opportunity:)

actually, just a side note, but with the Alesis ModFX tap tempo, the rate knob acts as a multiplier (from half notes relative to LFO to 32nd notes). I use mine with a synth but you probably want something a bit more foot-controllable for bass guitar.

Just put myself on the waiting list for this pedal.
I figured concerning all the functions an EHX variant would cost about as much as the custom made version.
I’ll post clips here when I get it.
    Should be early July.

Yo. I play in a live hip-hop band (Ancient Tongue) that experiments and stretches into dubstep territory often. Not wanting to be outdone by the synth I came up with this: Bass to zvex tremolo probe to qtron plus with dist in the loop to dbx120a (subharmonic synthesizer) to DI and amp. On the tremolo probe I use my hand on easier passages and my foot on harder ones. The tap tempo trems with note value changes are cool, but after experimentation I am more accurate, artful and comfortable doing the trems manually. Then I am not stuck in patterns. The trem probe can be triggered with flicking my fingers for faster-than-foot tap tremolos. But your design idea blows everybody elses ideas away. Good work.

You might not believe me, but the best pedal for those Dubstep tones is Behringere BSY600 pretty cheap but from all that use it I never heard complaints, they prefer it above the Boss pedal.. Might be shitty housing, but for that cheap the pain of rehousing would be worth it, when it would break.

it’s going to be out before the end of this year, the builder told me.
When I receive mine, I’ll post a link here when I’ve made a testing-video of it.

    who is making that pedal?

    #113575

as i beleive i understand, a member of talkbass is building it.

the 1st dubstep song i heard (sleep with one eye open by bring me the horizon but remixed by tek one) absolutely blew me away! since then i havent really gotten into dubstep but it is still one of the coolest things ive ever heard.

i was thinking about an analog tremolo i could make to do this:
have a master rate and then a footswitchable multiplier that scrolls to a different valued resistor with every press of the foot. tap tempo is too far from me to build. it would take some guessing and checking to figure out what values would multiply it correctly but (i just thought of this) i could use a potentiometer to fine tune it then check the ohms with my multimeter.

it wouldnt be too difficult really for a simple diy dubstep tremolo.
start with the ea tremolo (seems to be a very popular and simple one) and add a sp5t switch with specific resistors before the rate pot

    im a genius

Here’s a better question: How could you get a Dubstep sound with EHX pedals?
It’d be cool to have the Effectology guy onto this since 75% of my pedalboard is EHX xD

Hey whoever said they were making this should seriously give an update, I’m sick of the space bar taking all my money. (As in, all dubstep DJs do is press play lol)
