Howdy! Love my B9! I’m in love with all of the 9 series and will probably end up with a board full of them! I have my rig set up using a Morley switcher. I can switch between electric, which sends my signal to my amp, acoustic, which sends my signal directly to the board, and organ, which sends the signal through the B9 and then to the board. My B9 has produced a hum from day one. It’s a high-pitched cycle hum and is audible through all channels but especially through my amp (Vox ac15cc). This hum is audible even when the pedal is shut off. The only way to get rid of it is to disengage the power jack. I have removed the pedal from the effects chain and plugged it directly into the amp and still get the hum. It’s loud enough to be unacceptable. I’ve gotten into the habit of reaching down and unplugging it when I’m not using it. This too is unacceptable. I would throw it into the stompbox graveyard but this thing is indispensable to me! As the Mel9 shortly will be as well!
Somebody help me!
September 3, 2016 at 1:01 pm #121961ScruffieMemberHow are you powering it? The B9 needs an isolated supply, sounds like you might have it on a chain.
September 3, 2016 at 3:01 pm #121963spookytooth68MemberI don’t have the supply that came with it (Not sure it came with one) but it fits have it’s own isolated supply from my power bank.
September 3, 2016 at 3:31 pm #121964ScruffieMemberTry powering just the B9 on its own and see if the noise remains.
September 3, 2016 at 4:21 pm #121965EHX STAFFKeymasterYes that noise if from a power supply that does not have individual isolated outs in a daisy chain.
If you must use that supply an idolater will cure it.September 3, 2016 at 11:15 pm #121913spookytooth68MemberThat video is definitely the same hum! You guys should build these isolaters right into your pedals! Is it just a 1 to 1 transformer?
September 4, 2016 at 12:20 am #121973EHX STAFFKeymasterThe third party adapter companies should. Some are now.
This happens with other pedals besides EHX.
I am hoping we will produce a multi supply with many truly isolated outputs.September 11, 2019 at 1:14 pm #125519arch1eParticipantYes I get exactly the same running from shared power supply (a pedaltrain volto rechargeable supply). The B9 causes the hum/whistle when plugged in even if the in/out jack leads are completely removed from the chain. It’s the only pedal I have that does this which is a pain as I moved to the Volto so that I didn’t have to have a mains cable trapped across the stage. Anyone suggest a mod to the power cable that would fix it?
October 2, 2020 at 6:44 pm #126498jaypandaMemberhey! Has anyone ever found a diago isolator?? looks like the company died or something. Nobody seems to sell anything like it anymore. Any tips? My Mel9 is a hummy little sucker.
