    in my opinion best punk bands are (in no particular order)

    (+ i know all of steve albini’s bands are on here

    fugazi
    misfits
    black flag
    samhain
    necros
    old AFI (up to sing ths sorrow)
    NoFX
    gorilla biscuits
    big black
    DOA
    The DK’s
    fear
    husker du
    the wipers
    ramones
    rapeman
    shellac
    sonic youth
    ss decontrol
    stiff little fingers
    the stooges
    tsol
    violent children
    violent femmes
    against me

    i would say that my favorite green day albums are nimrod, dookie, and warning. i really like warning because it isnt like most of their other albums.

    but i think the clash is probably my favorite punk band.

    shit like that. I hate the abuse of the term “Punk” by obviously non punk bands these days. its like sticking a fender decal on a chinese squier!

    i bet they see each other as a ground breaker in punk but probably never argue which is more punk because their sounds are on totally different ends of the punk genre. in my personal opinion i enjoy Green Day more and i see Rancid as more of a Ska band with a punk look and sound. So they are both still punk only GD is more protest and anger based and Rancid is a more up beat type of punk.

    Sonic youth isn’t punk, SY is definitely avant-garde. Kinski is another avant-garde band I like too.

    I guess we could all use a course in labels. :D I’ve been a huge SY fan for almost 20 years now, but I always thought of them as an art-rock band. Avant-garde is so passé… :P

    I think there is, it’s just totally underground now. There’s a very healthy DIY punk scene in the UK, it’s always been there.

    There’s lots of small labels like Crackle and Boss Tunage putting out good stuff.

    It’s there, it’s just under the radar of the mainstream where punk should be.

    punk started out as just being art rock. Television, Blondie, Pere Ubu, DEVO, and the Talking Heads were punk. By that definition I’d place Sonic Youth as punk.

    Now if you want to talk about straight-up punk, I wouldn’t define them as punk.

    as an admin, i dont think you have the coice, say i try to sell something on the forum, you MUST speak to me, so in that case, yes husker du is most deffinitley on there, but in the case of which truly happend, i didnt know more than 3/4 of that list. it was a joke.
