Some time ago I posted about an input problem that was resolved. Turns out the EHX 95000 looper can’t take balanced TRS 1/4″ cables, and only goes for TS unbal mono 1/4″ __OR__ XLR bal (if you want a balanced connection).

I haven’t played much with the unit since my last forum post, so you can rule out any sort of abuse
A new input problem has come about, and I’m not sure if the unit has a defect, or if this is intended in the design.
What’s the reason for it cutting to silence with powered instruments such as keyboards and synths when you bring up the input volume past a certain threshold? (like up past 35% for example, the cut-off seems relative to the instrument’s own gain at the time, and oddly enough the 95000’s cutoff headroom increases a bit if the instrument’s master vol is a bit higher). The sound comes back on as soon as you bring it back down. No clipping happens before or after the cutoff, no red LED indicator, no distortion.
This happens only with TS unbal quarterjack to quarterjack connections.
This does not happen on my drum machine.
Both the drum machine and the synth i’m using currently are of the same brand, around the same release time (Arthuria Drumbrute and Arthuria Microbrute synth).
So obviously I can “just use Bal XLR cables”. But the question remains: What’s making it cut out when using TS cable? And this isn’t ALL powered instruments, since the drum machine works fine using TS 1/4″.
I’d like to find out how the cutoff works, if possible!

Ok! Thank you
