Hi Everyone,
I just got a replacement 720 looper back after my first one exhibited quite a bit of static/digital noise while loops were played back. That issue is non-existent with this unit, but now I notice that introducing it to my signal chain adds quite a bit of phasing white noise.
By phasing white noise I mean a persistent low-level noise that seems to rise and fall slightly in pitch/frequency/phase, as if you’ve got a high-gain pedal’s volume turned up, but with the added bonus of modulation. I’ve tried everything, once again, to see where the noise could be coming from. The noise is always there if the pedal is powered up, and at any point in my signal chain, no matter if the pedal is playing a loop, recording a loop or just simply being bypassed.
I completely isolated the pedal to a 9V battery and a single output cable to my recording interface and the phasing noise persists. In fact, it actually gets worse as you dub more loops in.
Does anyone else notice this issue with their unit? Trying just plugging yours into power and listening on headphones for a second, then unplug the pedal and listen again.
At this point, as much as I enjoy this pedal, I’m ready to just jump ship to a Ditto X2.

Loop volume is at noon, EQ for the recorded and master tracks are flat. I realize the noise is “faint” in the recording, but trust me when I say there’s a noticeable difference when the pedal isn’t a part of my signal chain. The looper isn’t playing anything back, it’s just powered up and running a single output cable to my interface. It’s definitely not as loud in a normal setup as in the recording, but it is noticeable enough to me that adding or removing the 720 from my signal chain makes quite a difference in the noise floor.

That noise is HUGE! I assume you are cranking the daylights out of for demonstration.
There is a chance the 720,s noise floor may be to high for how you are using it.
There may also be a chance your second unit has a problem, in which case please contact the techs at info@ehx.comFWIW we have had almost no complaints about the noise floor.
Sorry!

Yeah, sorry about the insane levels. I realized my master track was adding some wild compression. I changed out the tracks, so if you listen again, it should be so quiet that you’ll have to turn up your volume, but I’d suggested starting low in case your browser cached the old recording. That recording is more representative of what it sounds like. But again, on headphones I notice a difference in the noise floor when the 720 is and isn’t in my signal chain.
In contacting the techs, do you think it would be possible for them to plug one in there and see if they get any noticeable increase in the noise floor? I’m not in the mood to run through the whole replacement process right now. If it’s the case that other units exhibit the same behavior, then maybe I’ll just live with it.
Thanks!

July 10, 2020 at 7:05 pm #126260saltbirdMemberI have a very similar issue with my 720 looper. It just adds a noticeable amount of white noise to my signal chain. It at least doubles, maybe triples it so there’s certainly no denying what I’m hearing. I’ve tried multiple different cables, isolated power supplies, wall warts, amps, guitars, soloing it, everything. I assumed I got a defective unit so I returned it at the dealer’s expense. Now I feel bad for doing that because I ordered another one from a different dealer and it’s doing the exact same thing. I’m pretty annoyed about it ESPECIALLY because there’s practically no mention of it (except here) online or in reviews. Have people really NOT noticed this? Or did I somehow get sent two faulty units in a row from independent dealers?
EHX, as a lifelong repeat customer of your products (you should see my collection!) I’d really appreciate some kind of rectification of this issue. Either a replacement unit that doesn’t have this problem, a repair, or a refund! If it wasn’t for this static noise I would be absolutely floored with the 720, but a significant increase in the noise floor is a deal breaker…
