    Dear EHX team.

I use 45000 and Korg Electribe in band as tools for practice, where I basically record all my band members (instruments). That helps me really well when I as a drummer practice by myself. I usually write down whole track on electribe and set my 45000 in slave mode through MIDI. Quantize and external clock are always used.

So far everything worked smoothly until today. We as band worked on a new song where tempo of the song slightly change at the end from 168 bpm to 158 bpm.
When we recorded loop (bass guitar) and played it back it doesn’t start on the first note of the bar. It actually jumps in a few milliseconds before the first note.I usually always leave 2 bars of silence before 45000 begin to record music, so I can count the tempo to the band. All the other songs (loops) so far where always played in time, so my believe is it has to do something with changing tempo during the song.

Is there any possibility to avoid this issue??

Although I just remembered we did something similar 10 years ago, using exact same electribe and 2880 looper and it recorded and played back flawlessly.

One more thing I am not able to figure it out is again some time discrepancy when playing loops synchronised with electribe. Some loops (when in stop mode) I can easily choose to start from any position of the “song”. Beat, tempo and loops all start play without any changes in sound. However there are few of them where loops firstly speed above the tempo and than slow down under the tempo, and then after few seconds it settle down with the tempo and beat on electribe. Those songs have no changes in tempo so the reason has to be somewhere else.

    …few more things ????

Since this is my first time writing as a long time EHX user I would to say that old 2880 had much more gain on input knobs. Usually 9 o’clock position was more than enough for any instrument, and now on 45000 they have to be at least at 12 o’clock position.

Another thing I find very frustrating is pan knobs wrongly connected. Master Pan knob is OK where left position play left speaker (output) and the right plays right speaker. But all the 4 channels are wrongly connected since left turned knob represents the right output and vice versa. I guess this is factory mistake ?? ????

Thank you for all the help in advance,
and wish you good health during this crazy Covid times.

    Regards from Slovenia.

There’s a lot of questions here so I’ll answer them over a few separate posts…

The 45000 (and 2880 also) don’t handle tempo changes well, even if just a few BPM. We recommend you don’t do the tempo change at all with the 45000 but if you need the tempo change, try the following:

    1. Record the entire New Loop at one tempo, probably 168 BPM in this case. Don’t record any instruments while doing this, just create a blank loop. The important thing is that the tempo doesn’t change and you record at least the number of bars you need for the entire loop.

    2. After the New Loop’s initial recording is done, put back the tempo change and make sure to record all instruments with the tempo change. The tempo change should always be in the same spot in the song, don’t move the tempo change after you begin recording the instruments.

Most likely what occurred here with the 2880 is that the initial loop was recorded without a tempo change and then you added the tempo change later, while overdubbing on the loop or playing it back.

Most likely, when the Electribe is stopped, it does not continue to send out MIDI Clock. If the MIDI Clock tempo to the 45000 changes while the MIDI Clock stream is stopped–or while both units are stopped–the 45000 will need one to three bars to settle on the new tempo, depending on how drastic the tempo change is.

I believe this is what is occurring when you experience this problem. The tempo has changed since the last time the 45000 was following MIDI clock and it needs time to adjust to the new tempo once the units start playing again.

Regarding the gain on the input knobs, one problem the 2880 had was that you weren’t able to turn the gain down enough for high amplitude signals. We extended the range downward on the 45000 gain pots to provide proper gain to a wider range of signal levels.

That is a very strange problem on the Pan pots and not normal. When you hear this problem occur, are you listening to the Headphones output jack or the Left and Right outputs on the 45000?
