When in midi slave mode, is it possible to have the 2880 record when I press the record button? (not when it receives a midi start signal)

The reason I ask is that in my setup the 2880 is hooked up to a Kaossilator Pro. The Kpro must be master and is not able to send midi start information.

The 2880 in slave mode listens and blinks its LEDs to perfect time while listening to the Kpro clock. However it is impossible to record audio as the Kpro cannot send the midi start signal. Is there anyway around this problem?
