I got a 16 second delay off craigslist after a year long search. It arrived yesterday less the power supply. I got online and saw that it takes a 9v dc 500ma, so I got a roland one at the local shop, picked up an adapter slice plug thing from radio shmuck and wired it all up. I have pretty blinking lights but when the effect is engaged I have a loud constant hum (it’s actually a low b) and no guitar sound. I can get the clix to come on, the sweep works and I can record the hum and loop it but can’t get my guitar signal to come through. I flipped the adapter around to switch the ring/tip thing but I get the same thing. Is the just because I don’t have the propper power conditioner or could the effect have issues? I’m thinking about buying a hog too, but I’m a little paranoid now. I contacted the seller but haven’t heard back yet. Thanks for any advice.

May 28, 2009 at 12:05 am #97066looptheloopMemberhi there. im in australia so we’re 240 v but my adaptor is 100-240 v , input : 50/60Hz 0.4A – output is : 9v but 1.67 A so maybe 500 ma is not enough?? centerpoint in NEGATIVE.
if youve got lights but hum may be a problem with the unit. switching the ring tip is not such a good idea did you have any luck later on?May 28, 2009 at 2:41 am #97069julianModeratorI believe center is positive, because it uses the same adapter as the HOG, which is center positive.
It sounds like the pedal is damaged, it could have been damaged by the power supply, or it could have been damaged before. I don’t know.
EH can fix it, but you’d have to pay repair plus postage both ways. Still, paying to repair it is still cheaper than just accepting it as being a broken unit. If you want to do that, get in touch with info@ehx.com
May 29, 2009 at 12:45 am #97110looptheloopMemberhey. well julian now im confused! i have a 2880 (centerpoint positive) but looking at the adaptor for my 16 second its definitely centerpoint negative. oh well…it hasn’t blown up yet!
May 29, 2009 at 1:13 am #97114julianModeratorthat’s weird, because it says they use the same adapter on New Sensor

Maybe there is an error on the New Sensor site. Maybe an EH employee could help clear this up.

9 volts DC 500mA
Center is positive. If it is humming most likely the adapter is ether Non Regulated or under the 500mA requirement.
Many of the Boss 9 volt adapters are only rated at 200mA.
You are staving the delay for current and forcing the adapter past its point of clean output voltage.
That equals a Hum.See what your boss adapter says on the case as far as volts and current go.
Never just change the polarity to see if it is working.
Its a fast way to fry your gear.
Some pieces are very unforgiving.A cheap volt/ohm meter at radio shack will help you check what you have for about $10.
A great thing to have in your house for many guitar related projects.Good luck, your 16 second delay is a master piece in engineering.
One of my favorite pedals of all time!Bill Ruppert

I’m so pissed that this pedal I searched for and was so excited about is busted. Now I got a HOG and the exp pedal doesn’t work (see HOG expression pedal problems post). EHX makes some incredible effects and has people thinking light years ahead of their time, but quality control is crap in my experience thus far. The only other effect I own by them is a pulsar which has never given me any problems, but it’s a simple tremolo pedal. Is anyone else experiencing the more complicated designs having less the ample QC? Or maybe it’s just bugs, I don’t know. But it really chaps my ass.

Have you heard back the seller? it sounds to me like he’s sold you a broken pedal. (that he probably knew was broken) Was it sold to you as working? Did you know that there wasn’t a power supply? It all sounds a bit dodgy to me and maybe a lesson learned for the future.
May 29, 2009 at 9:47 am #97124camerondParticipantYeah I kind of had that feeling. The guy did get back to me only to say it always worked when he had it, etc. He “forgot” the power suply. All in all I guess its ok. I got the delay and the controller for $300. As long as the repair isn’t outrageous I should still come out ok.

It’s now much less noisy w/ true bypass & he created both wet and dry outputs for me for recording, w/ a stereo output jack. I always loved this pedal, but hated the noise and lo-fi output. The FX Doc will take care of it and for a quite rea$onable!
