Hello to all and Merry Christmas! I’m the new owner of 1440 Looper pedal. This is one of the best compact loopers on the market, but I couldn’t find the function of traditional Reverse/Octave operating as in Line 6 Dl4 or TC Electronic Ditto loopers… I’m talking about one footswitch push for Octave and two quick pushes for Reverse. This feature became the standard in live looping for past 20 years and not having this function was disappointing. I thought finally I will put my old Line 6 and Ditto looper on the shelf or sell them, but lacking this feature in EHX 1440 was a bad surprise… Is it possible to suggest this idea for next firmware update of the pedal?

i had my eyes on this looper from the moment it was announced. I wholeheartedly agree that if this had been implemented from the start when designing this pedal, this would be an absolute killer. Now, i do not know if it’s even possible to implement such a function via software/firmware update.
You have to consider that the STOP(FX) switch has these fuctions:
1. STOP
2. OCT
3. REV
4. REV/OCT ( aka so close but yet so far )
5. TRIG
All these are a 1 press action. Once selected. I consider these as sub functions to this switch. The LOOP switch is perfectly designed to accommodate all needed actions.
1. Single press – Starts loop, starts/stops overdub
2. Double press – Stops the playback
3. Hold press – Undo/redo
So the Loop switch is out of the “loop” (i know that was lame lmao). The problem i think occurs because the STOP(FX) switch has a function that negates the rest.
The (extra) ERASE function. There are two ways to erase a loop from memory. In many loopers the only way to erase a loop is with the playback stopped. Makes sense right?
Same with the 1440. With playback stopped you hold the STOP(FX) switch to erase a loop.EHX though, added the option to erase a loop while in playback and that’s exactly the problem. Similarly to a BOSS RC-20 for example where it had 2 switches (but no fx). The Line6 has separate switches for Record/Overdub & Play/Stop. There’s no erase function assigned to any switches. You just stop and if press Record the previous loop is erased.
You can erase a loop while it’s playing by pressing the STOP(FX) 2 times quickly (reminds you of anything) and then holding.
Now, is this needed? I don’t know. Personal preference.
Is it possible to give us the option through the SWFX menu, so we can have this coveted function? Either the STOP(FX) to have the “erase while playback” or the OCT/REVERSE (one press OCT, two presses REVERSE). I believe it should be possible.
I don’t know if any EHX Rep is reading this or if there is a way to reach the tech/design team but i implore you to add the option to select OCT/REVERSE like with the DL4. It was one of the most practical things. I truly believe that adding this option will make one of the most complete package loopers with this form factor in the whole market. No compromises. There’s always going to be someone who’ll say “ah it should have this and that” but the 1440 has all that it should have. This function is one of the most basic, no brainer ones. It shouldn’t be missing.
Hell, at least add it with the external triple foot controller. You’ll get some heat with this move but worth it.
I hope this message reaches the appropriate person in the EHX team.
Cheers!

October 9, 2022 at 5:51 pm #194342ProvidenceParticipantOh, thank you for your support! I wish there was something like discussions with people, before releasing the pedals. Sometimes I think that pedals are made by people, who don’t know what real musicians need from them.

The DL4 OCT/REV kind of function can be considered a niche maybe but it’s so invaluably practical. To have the option to select 2 common fx with just one switch.
I don’t how many people have that request/wish and what percentage of them are vocal about it. Most of the time people don’t do that.
I hope someone from the company will see this and this request will reach the right people.
For me if this function is implemented we’re talking of a “keep it for life” pedal.
The only thing a potential future version would top it is an SD card and more loops. That’s it. It’s perfect. -
