Whether winning Downbeat’s prestigious Critic’s Poll as “Guitarist of the Year” or a Grammy Award for “Best Contemporary Jazz Album,” Bill Frisell is always stretching the boundaries that define contemporary jazz guitar.

His use of effects to shape and shade the timbre of his electric guitar play a large part in creating a sound that is uniquely his own.

This recent photo shows Bill at the Village Vanguard in New York City with his Electro-Harmonix FREEZE Sound Retainer and Micro POG, Polyphonic Octave Generator. The FREEZE is a new addition to Bill’s tone-shaping palette and he had this to say to EHX founder, Mike Matthews, and daughter, Suzi Matthews:

“This Freeze thing is off the scale…a serious musical instrument…already making impossible things possible…really…this is something else!”
