I’ve got a weird early Black Finger compressor. Every schematic I’ve seen shows the pedal as an 18v effect, but this one has only one 9v battery snap with a bunch of extra parts on the solder side of the board.
At the moment the effect sounds more like an auto swell. The harder the note attack is the more the sound is “ducked” then it slowly blossoms to full volume. It’s also pretty distorted. I just opened it up today so I haven’t taken voltage readings or probed it, but the single 9V makes me wonder. Was this an EHX attempt at running the unit at 9V? Or has someone previously “modded” the pedal? Here are some photos. Any ideas or input works be appreciated and fun!
