The first compressor I ever had was the soul preacher. I loved it. About a year ago it broke, so I decided to try another compressor. I tried the Pigtronix king of tone, I couldn’t get it to do what I got out of the soul preacher. So, I decided to try the ehx Black Finger as my tube eq has been my #1 pedal since I got it about 10 years ago. Again, can’t seem to use it the way I would like.
So, I put my compressor after my drives so that I can use my volume knob on the guitar to adjust the level of dirt as opposed to the actual volume. When I used the soul preacher, no matter how I adjusted the volume from my guitar, the actual volume coming out of my amp was consistent. With these two other pedals, when I turn the volume from the guitar, the audible volume is adjusted with it, even with the compression maxed.
Does anyone know how to set up the black finger so the output volume remains consistent so that I can go back to using my volume knob to adjust grit on the fly? Or is that something somehow special to the soul preacher?
