Hi when I use my v256 midi with my dsi prophet rev 2 if I turn the volume knob on the rev 2 the internal synth on the v256 becomes audible, is this normal behavior, as it makes the v256 useless?

Which output on the V256 are you using?
Can you deassign the Prophet’s volume knob from sending out MIDI CC data?
