    Hello folks,

i really loved my Memory Toy, as it was a big part of my Sound in Modern Jazz Music. I really liked the Modulation, which gave slightly detuned movement to every note. Sadly, my toy broke. After much consideration, I now bought a Memory Boy, as I thought it could do exactly what the Toy did, but even more.

But now i find myself having a hard time to reproduce the “movement” of the “Mod”-Mode of the Memory Toy on my new Memory Boy.
For my ears, both “Vibrato” and “Chorus” have different charachteristics then the “Mod”-Mode of the Toy.

What does the Modulation of the Toy really do and how can I tweek my Boy to sound like the Toy in “Modulation”?

    Thank you guys!

The Memory Toy and Memory Boy BBD clock circuits are very different. They use different methods for generating the modulation waveform, mixing the modulation waveform with the fixed delay time setting and even how the modulation and delay time setting are converted to a clock that ultimately sets the delay time of the BBD chips.

If you really love the modulation characteristics in the Memory Toy and can’t seem to replicate in the Memory Boy then you may actually want to exchange the Boy for a Toy.

I have the Memory Toy and the Deluxe Memory Man TT and I have no problems duplicating the modulation effect of the Memory Toy on the Memory Man, it’s a slow triangle wave modulation,
On the Memory Boy, set the toggle switch for the LFO shape in the up (triangle) position and the LFO rate switch in the down (“chorus” ) position then set the “Depth” knob to about 10:00.. this should be close to the Memory Toy.
