Hello EHX enthusiasts!
I would like to control the Superego+ with a device like Arturia’s Keystep. The two options for CV out on the Keystep (and I am quoting the manual) are 1V/octave 0-10V, and Hz per Volt max 12V.
Would either work with the superego+? In the ehx manual it’s specified as 0-5V. Is that correct?
Also, I know there is way to tell the superego the minimum and maximum value of the expression pedal plugged in. Would this work for CV as well?
Finally, possibly a stupid question: How does the superego know if its going to read a passive resistance value, or a voltage value through the EXP input?
Thank you for your input!

The Superego Plus should be able to use CV values of 0-5 and save presets like a passive expression pedal.
There expression pedal input is designed to let the micro controller know if it’s CV or passive.

The Arturia Keystep does not have an appropriate Voltage value to control the Superego+. If someone really wanted to control the superego with a Keystep they would have to use a MIDI to CV converter. or make one using an Arduino or similar.
The Korg SQ-1 does have a 5V setting. So you can have a sequence running into the Superego to modulate the effects. The filter is a nice one to control this way. Also the SQ-1 can act as a MIDI to CV converter when connected to a computer via its USB. So you can send any sequence to the Superego and control the pitch effect for example.
I love my Superego+. So many things you can do with it. I feel it expands the capabilities of the instrument and changes the way I play.
January 15, 2021 at 10:37 pm #126742tktktktkMemberSorry for reviving this old thread, but I just got a Korg SQ-1 that I’m trying to use on the Superego Plus. When I try to sequence the pitch effect on the Superego, all I can get from the step knob is 6 different pitches, regardless of using 1, 2 or 5 Volts. Is that the most Superego can get from the SQ-1 or am I doing something incorrectly? I have a 1/8 cable plugged in the CV-A out running into the EXP of the Superego, using a 1/8-1/4 TRS plug adapter.
January 16, 2021 at 12:10 am #126743karaolosMemberThere is a setting on the SQ1 for the behavior of the step values. You can have it as Linear, Major, Minor and Chromatic. It’s Function + the Last four step buttons. Does this solve it?
Keep in mind that when using the EXP input to control the pitch effect you can only go UP one octave, while if you were using the pots on the pedal you would be able to go down an octave as well.
January 16, 2021 at 12:19 am #126744tktktktkMemberDoesn’t that only round up the pitch to the nearest major/minor/chroma tone?
I don’t think that’s true about going down. You can set the EXP pedal down and top position, and you can go from -1 to +1 octave.
I am not sure if I’m miscommunicating my question. If I use the knob on the Superego to change the pitch, there are many steps in the pitch. When I turn knobs that control the pitch on the SQ-1, it only does 5 steps, meaning 6 different pitches in Superego. This is true for any Voltage setting, but higher the voltage, higher the pitch change from moving the knob. Ideally, I’d wanna get as many pitch changes by turning the SQ-1 knob as I get them by turning the knob on the Superego.
January 16, 2021 at 12:45 am #126745karaolosMemberIt does round up the voltage value, and should be on linear to check everything else.
Maybe I was wrong about the lower octave with the EXP pedal… I’m only answering from memory. I’ll check soon and share my findings.
If the SQ1 is set to linear so it doesn’t jump voltage values, it should behave as if you had a passive continuous EXP pedal. Again, I’ll check the gear itself.
