Greetings,
I just bought a Mel9, the stomp switch is insanely hard to press, I already have an EPITOM3 and none of the switches are so stubborn…Anytime i press it, I have the feeling it’s about to break…it doesn’t click smoothly…
Is this a common issue?…I was thinking to go to the nearby shop and check if all have this kinda problem, if you tell me it is NOT how it’s supposed to be, I’ll just ask my dealer for a replacement…June 20, 2017 at 4:11 pm #122977EHX STAFFKeymasterSorry Dave
The Epitome has different foot switches and does feel smother. Less click.
The 9,s have the same switch as the big muff, small stones, Holy Grail and so many of our other pedals.
If you feel it is defective PLEASE exchange it. But it would be good for you to try some other EHX pedals and see how the switches feel.June 20, 2017 at 4:31 pm #122978EHX STAFFKeymasterAlso when you say string noise you hear are you daisy chaining the power or using the EHX supply.
Do you hear the noise with the guitar volume all the way down?June 20, 2017 at 4:50 pm #122979DaveNilayaParticipantThank you for your reply, I’ll check another Mel9 at the local store and see if it’s the same.
About the noise…
I tried it with a Taylor, acoustic guitar, with the volum all the way down I didn’t notice anything…
And no, I’m not daisy chaining the power…
I’ll make other tests with other guitars.Since we’re talking, I would like to ask another question…
Normally during my gigs I use an Harmony Singer, which is supposed to be FIRST in the effect chain…The Mel 9 is ALSO supposed to be first…
Do you think Putting The Mel9 after the Harmony Singer will affect significantly the performance of the device?Thank you for your time.
June 20, 2017 at 4:58 pm #122980EHX STAFFKeymasterIf the Harmony sing is just passing a clean unaffected signal it could be first in line.
The Mel9 works best with the raw guitar signal. AND it works best with an electric guitar.
that said I have used it many times on acoustic ans it is great in recording. If you are hearing noise with the volume up on the guitar and then not with the guitar volume down makes me think the guitar is picking up noise and the Mel9 is just effecting the noise it hears. Please check cables and wiring.

I’ll just check the stomp switch…Thanks again for your help!
Live long and prosper.
June 20, 2017 at 9:12 pm #122982EHX STAFFKeymasterThanks Dave.
Please check for the noise with an electric guitar.
If it is still an issue with the noise please record some of it so I can hear your problem.June 21, 2017 at 2:45 pm #122985DaveNilayaParticipantHello Friend,
I did as you suggested, and everything sounds great.
So I guess those “noises” were as you said, background noise picked up by the acoustic guitar. If I had to use the Mel9 with the Epitom3, you also recomend to put the Mel9 before anything right?…BUT if I wanted to use also a synth 9?…what then?
Last question, is it normal for some units to have on them some little scratches when they come out of the factory?…Just noticed a couple of these things and one of the corners some paint is missing…
Not that I care…Just wanna be sure I didn’t get a used unit…you never know.Again thank you
June 21, 2017 at 3:19 pm #122986EHX STAFFKeymasterNO! the scratches should not be there.
Please exchange it right now.June 23, 2017 at 7:09 am #122999DaveNilayaParticipantHello!
I changed the Mel 9 as you recomended…
And just registered the product, and I can’t remember if I registered my epitome…is there a way to check what products are registered, or I should just do it and if it’s already there, the system will warn me?
Thank you and good day!June 23, 2017 at 2:05 pm #123000EHX STAFFKeymasterDave if you do not register just save your receipt that would be fine.
