    Dear EHX,

    I’ve been using your 45000 for a month now with great results. There is only one thing that I would like to improve… the switches on the footcontroller. They are way too loud for me. Can I just swap them out for clickless SPDT switches? Are there other things that I can consider for making the switches less noisy? I was thinking about adding some soft rings between the switches and the housing. Is that something you guys have experience with?

    Hi Lennart due to voiding warranty and other problems that can happen we do not talk about modding our gear.
    Maybe someone not from the factory can help you.

    Dear Admin,

    Thank you for your fast reply! I understand your considerations when it comes to modding. As the unit I have is second hand and quite old, there is no warrany concern for me.
    What would really help me is to know what type of switches are in there right now. I found the following text on the side of one of the five switches:

    YIS AC125V
    AC250V
    TW UT PAT N0168524
    ZL 01 2 464899

    Googeling the numbers left me with more questions then answers…

    Can you help me out?

    Here is what I did, for different reason though.
    I took a FS300 and using one of the two switches that are left and right, not the middle one it has some type of diode or some inline electronic resistor installed, i suppose you could remove it to make it work. I then Drilled a hole in the 45000 foot controller, installed a 1/4 female plug, run wires to the foot switch from the plug, to the start/stop the loop switch of the 45000. Will require some soldering. I could run others but that was all I needed, the reason i did this was the foot switches were too close to use for my feet on the 45000 foot controller. So now I plug in the FS300 to the 1/4 plug I installed on the 45000 foot controller, and control the Start/Stop of the loops with the other foot switch.
    Works like a champ.

    @EHX     STAFF Thanks for asking, i’m looking forward to the outcome! I’ve had a EHX 720 for a while (and the FX3X) and it had very quiet switches. Can you tell maybe a serial number of switches in that?


    @Bassman     I’m glad that your mod works so well. The position of the switches are ok for me, but the soft touch of the digitech pedal is exactly what I am looking for. The fs300 has 2 pin switches right? There are a lot of cheap 2 pin clickless switches on the market and looking into the 45000 foot controller I noticed that only 2 pins of every switch are connected. I’ll wait for EHX STAFF’s answer first.

    The footswitches are momentary where the pins are normally open. When you press down on the footswitch the pins close making a short circuit between the conductors. When you release the footswitch the pins open up again, there is an open circuit between the conductors.

    Hey, did you ever make this modification? I’m trying to do the same thing, don’t know much about switches but would like to replace at least the “record” switch with a more silent one. Any help?

    Well, yes I did! With plastic switches from my local shop. They didnt have silent steel switches at the time, but the plastic ones work great actually. Just measure the hole that they have to go through and ask for momentary switches and you are good. Have fun!
