After having the Soul Food backordered for nearly two months, it arrived today. I haven’t been as impressed with a pedal as I am with this one in a long time!
First order of business: Value – You get your money’s-worth and then some from this pedal! The build quality is solid, the sound is tremendous, and the overall tonal flexibility is an added bonus,([em]the SF could be used as a clean boost, slightly gritty boost, overdrive, or even a foundation distortion[/em]). Throw in the fact that the adapter comes with it and I really don’t think there’s a better overall value for any pedal on the market today.
Next up: Sound – Honestly, there are few boutique pedals that deliver the way this one does. If you want it to do the Klon thing – as it was designed to do – it does it well. The beauty of this one is that it can go beyond being just a Klon clone, as it has a good bit more distortion than a Centaur once you turn past about 3:00 on the drive knob. It has loads of volume, and the treble knob,([em]rather than a standard tone knob designation[/em]) has great range as well.
Finally: Stack-ability – It stacks with just about any overdrive or distortion very nicely. Utilize the range of the treble knob to really dial it in to work in conjunction with your other OD/Distortion pedals, or with your amp’s distortion. Works great either way!
Make no mistake, the Soul Food is both a properly priced Klon replica AND a great overall utility overdrive/boost. If you’re on the fence about pulling the trigger on ordering one now, don’t be. It may take a while for the next batch to ship,([em]it seems that all the major music outlets are filling backorders with the current shipment[/em]) but it’s worth the wait.
I’m happy with mine. I was using it earlier today. They can’t keep them in stock in the stores. For the price, this is another excellent EH pedal. I’m a big fan of overdrives. So far I’ve tried this out on the following amps I have: Marshall JTM1H, DSL15C, Fender NOS Blues Junior, silverface Vibro Champ, Blackstar HT-1. It has sounded good through all these amps so far. I tried it with the power supply and battery both.
