Hey. I know you’ve heard alot from me, but what can I say? I’ a curious pedal buyer. I’m gonna drop In guitar center in a week or to and pick up a MXR classic overdrive, sell my Multi and buy a crybaby, and get a big muff. The question is, which one? I like the low price and growl of the classic USA, but I also like the size and versatility of the tone wicker. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
June 12, 2011 at 5:37 am #115532DeluxeMemberI tested all 3 options…not sure if you bought yours yet…EHX says that they are the same circuit…Big Muff Pi, original comes in a big metal box…the little, same stuff but in a compact box…and Wicker, same also, small case, and two switches…not sure what happened during my test, but I liked the original much more than the others…found the Little BMP not as powerful as the Original…and the Wicker is too noisy…would like a confirmation from EHX if they are the same stuff inside…except for the 2 additional controls for the Wicker…
June 12, 2011 at 7:19 am #115533ehxguy11MemberI have a Big Muff Pi but I’m selling it. The Big Muff Pi is just too big for my small pedal bag and the output input jacks don’t fit in my board well. The Little Big Muff I just ordered due to size and having input jacks on the sides versus the top. The Tone Wicker I would have gotten if I had the money but I really just wanted a smaller Big Muff so that is why I got the Little Big Muff Pi. The components, if I remember are just micro sized in the Little Big Muff Pi compared to the Big Muff Pi. I wont be able to compare sound until I get the Little Big Muff Pi to compare. One thing is for sure, the Big Muff Pi With Tone Wicker would have a couple more tonal options. For the classic Big Muff Pi sound I think the Little Big Muff Pi would do!

Of all models ever made, Black Russian from 2005 is my fav, followed by OpAmp 1979 V4, then tone wicker, then LBM. the only one I haven’t played in person is the V2 Ramshead. Hope that helps.

P.S. For a small alternative, check out the Devi Ever Rocket. It compares to a LMB, has two separate fuzzes that are stackable and a tremolo mode. I like my Black Russian slightly better then the Rocket for straight up muff tones, but the Rocket does some sounds the muffs can’t do.

I found that the Big Muff Pi sounds a little more loose and has “sag” compared to the little one. The Little Big Muff Pi to my ears sounded a little tighter. I really like the Little Big Muff Pi and think it is a little more moderate fuzz compared to the Big Muff Pi. .02

August 25, 2011 at 11:04 pm #115679MK UltraMemberJust picked up the Big Muff Pi w/Tone Wicker yesterday…this is an awesome pedal! I love analog pedals; had some D.O.D. and Ibanez pedals a long time back, and in recent years, mostly used BOSS…but I have been watching lots of videos and listening to a number of demos and the BMP w/Tone Wicker just sounded really sweet..on the videos anyway…so I rolled the dice and got one at Guitar Center last night…and I’m really glad I did. I love the sounds it gives me; the sound has a nice fuzzy punch without sounding over the top, fake, or watered down. I think the designers found the perfect sound with this pedal and I foresee my BOSS pedals collecting some dust!
