Hi, new here. I just picked up a 1977 Clone Theory. It is the Edge On Version with the SAD 1024 chip. The guy I got from supposedly sent it to Howard Davis. He claims Howard….. “THE MODS THAT HE DID DO WAS MAKE IT QUIETER MORE DELAY IN THE CHORUS AND IT WILL DO A DOUBLING EFFECT. HE ALSO MAD IT A DC VERSION GETTING RID OF THAT BIG BULKY PLUG. IT WILL DO 18 VOLT OR 24 VOLT” This was his relist version
The original listing that first caught my interest was :http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=330520967448&si;=%2BE0V%2B2TYqQSKSYWX02DRUEPsVb4%3D&viewitem;=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Read on the question to seller portion at the bottom, some questions I asked him. So when I got this thing today. The chorus is very faint but is at unity with the bypass signal. The clone out jack is ok but the direct out does nothing. On the VIB side at 100% wet on VIB it’s volume drops in half. I think the calibration that Howard usually does never happened. I even emailed Howard and he said he didn’t really remember doing any mods on this pedal just repairs. I CAN tell a new 3pdt true bypass mod was done. This should have been a red flag for me at this point, but I really wanted this thing as I have heard Robin Guthrie from The Cocteau Twins used this pedal. I think its bias is set wrong but I am not going in there to mess with the pots. What should I do here, do I have a dispute against this guy? His listing said no returns so? I emailed him 8 or so hours ago and got nothing. I don’t want to send it to somebody to have it scoped to find out I have to sink some more $$ in this thing. Sucks!February 8, 2011 at 10:08 am #114169The EH ManModeratorI’d file a paypal dispute if you don’t hear anything back from the seller.
February 8, 2011 at 12:38 pm #114186melxMemberIt makes no difference that the listing said ‘no returns’ if the item you received is not as described you can go through the ebay claims procedure…. start buy clicking ‘resolve a problem’ in the drop down menu where it says ‘more actions’ under ‘leave feedback’ next to the item in ‘my ebay’
then click the ‘Item received was not as described’ option and explain the details…
it’s always best to do this rather than email so ebay have a record of what was said and when…. ebay will contact the seller on your behalf.
you will have to send it back to get a refund, so make sure you send it by some kind of recorded mail.

“i did.nt even notice that. i just used it real quick to make sure it worked. do you want to send it to him and ill pay for both way shipping and the repair. had i known i would have sent it back to him. the dry output is easy to hook up. but i had no idea about the volume drop.i never would have listed it had i known. if not ill take it back and refund it what else can i do. im really sorry. sucks too cause he charged me 140 to mod it. and i paid 200 for it. ahh gotta love vintage effects. i was gonna keep it but as you can see the snow has hammered the region. and been out of work since dec.lol. if you want him to fix it. ill call him and tell him about it and like i said ill pay for all of it. im so sorry totally my fault for not checking it. hes usually great. who knows what happend. let me know. ill be back later tonight.”

so I am sending it back and was told he would refund. recorded mail meaning tracking number and delivery confirmation so i have record it was sent back and then received by him?

just a quick shipping pro-tip [because i’ve seen people send stuff via Registered Mail, paying an arm and a leg]- Send it priority mail, and if it fits perfectly in one of the flat rate boxes [with packaging], use that. Just be sure to ask for a tracking number when you bring it to the post office [they’re free for priority mail]. best of luck with your return [from a fellow Cocteau Twins fan]
