I just picked up a DRM 15 with the Clock In input jack, and I already had a DRM 32.
I tried connecting them through the Clock In/Out, but the only thing it does is cancel the signal from the DRM 15.
So thinking that maybe the Clock In jack on the DRM 15 was broken, I tried just holding/releasing the bare end of the cable-plug to test the CV input. That works just fine.
I also tested the Clock Out of the DRM 32, and it is sending a clock signal just fine to my amp.
So what am I doing wrong? Am I using the wrong cable? Does there need to be some sort of device in between?
I would really love to sync up these machines if at all possible.
December 18, 2010 at 5:04 pm #113178Fender&EHX4everModeratorAccording to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CV/Gate
“Gate (Trigger) also has two implementations:
V-Trigger (“voltage trigger”, sometimes called “positive trigger”). This method involves keeping normally low voltage (around 0 V) on trigger and producing a fixed positive voltage to indicate a note is on. The amount of voltage required differs from synth to synth, but generally it is from 2 to 10 V. V-Trigger is used by Roland and Sequential Circuits synths, among others.
S-Trigger (“short circuit trigger”, sometimes called “negative trigger”). This one involves keeping voltage high normally, shorting the trigger circuit whenever the note should play. S-Trigger is used by Moog, Korg and Yamaha synths, among others.
Depending on the voltage level used, using the wrong combination of triggering mechanism would either yield no sound at all or would reverse all keypress events (i.e. sound will be produced with no keys pressed and muted on keypress).”
So when if connect a cable to the Clock In of the DRM 15, and I hold the bare plug, the DRM 15 stops. When I release it, the DRM 15 starts again. So is that V-Trigger or S-Trigger?
I’m guessing that it is V-trigger, thinking that my hand is sending a low voltage current to the DRM 15, thus triggering it on.
December 18, 2010 at 5:57 pm #113184CryabetesParticipantjust reading that, wouldn’t it be S-Trigger? because your hand is shorting the cable’s signal and ground?
also, i’m jealous. just sayin’.

I finally got them sync’d, anyways, through some more trial and error determination. I took a stereo patch cable, then pulled the plug out halfway from the Clock-In input. Also, I set the DRM 15’s tempo to zero, and engaged it as the DRM 32 was beginning its loop cycle. The DRM 15 then becomes a slave to the DRM 32. I can also change the settings (except for the Tempo knob) on both units to create some really great hybrid rhythms. To change tempos, it seems like I’ll have to reset or re-sync the 2 units every time.
So now my question is, how can I build a footswitch that will allow me to release/engage the CV line so I don’t have to re-sync it by pulling the plug out of the Clock-In, then putting back in again halfway?

otherwise maybe a ‘clear cv’ button for the one with the cable half in. would just need to be a spst momentary that opens the circuit when you hit it.

I have no clue, but if it’s some kind of TRS a/b thing it won’t be a problem.

I happened to have an old momentary footswitch lying around, and I had a couple of old pancake style stereo plugs. I just soldered it together tonight, and presto… I have a reset switch that resyncs these machines. I just tested it out, and it works a charm.
And thank you, Cryabetes, for the momentary switch idea. Brilliant.

nice one. glad you sorted it…..
so explain again in simple terms, what exactly does this let you do?

I can run both DRMs in tandem and in clock sync.
For example, I could have the 32 playing a ROCK rhythm, and the 15 playing a FUNK rhythm to create a polyrhythm. Better yet, I can run each into its own channel, and get full stereo separation from them, creating a stereo interplay of the polyrhythms.
I can also change the modes while in operation to mix it up.

I kind of wish I had something like that- I use an electribe er-1mkII for my beats, and while it is really great and easy to use, every time I use midi I feel like I am cheating at music.
That said, I used to make beats by synchronizing [by ear] a couple old DOD RDS units on repeat hold mode so I guess I have credibility to burn.September 18, 2013 at 2:45 am #119359elcorreodjMemberHello, I am looking for a DRM EH 32, someone has a for sale? please email me elcorreodj@hotmail.com

Please does anyone have the DRM 15 or 32 clock in/out schema ?
Why are they so much untraceable ?..

Please would you like to send me a PCB pic of your DRM15 or 32 ?
