    Hello. New here!

First of all let me tell you I love EH products.

Just bought a Tube EQ and I really like what it does for my (really dry) amp.

The only problem I hear is the noise it produces. I really don’t want to get another pedal to solve that issue.

Looking at a “12AX7 comparison at a glance” table at thetubestore.com. Jumped to my mind that the noise rating the Sovtek 12AX7-WA tubes (found in my TubeEQ) is really low, and maybe swapping them for a couple of Svetlanas or Mullards would help.

What do you think about this?

    Thanks!

    What? No one?

Ok I ordered a couple of Svetlanas and will be posting the results here. Its a shame that there is not much info on this great pedal.

    Cheers.

    Hello there Oquedo-
I am looking into the possibility of getting a Tube EQ– do you think it’s got enough power to work as a preamp? I have an amp with a tube power section and SS preamp. I’d like to go right into the power amp with this pedal. Will it do what I’m hoping, and serve as a preamp?

Thanks, and please do post when you replace the tubes.

    Cheers-

I was wondering the same but I think we’ll have to wait for an expert advice on this. Because if it worked as a preamp then it would be a cool combo with the EH magnum amp. And maybe we could even mess around with some 12AY7 tubes to get tweed overdrives?? Or am I dreaming?

What I know is that the LPB-2ube is the one that says its a preamp clearly.

    Oquedu-
You should do a search on “Tube EQ noise” (or something) on this forum- one guy discovered that when he removed the power jack from the housing that stopped his noise issue. He brought it around outside of the case and has it plugged in that way. Someone recommended he shield the jack inside the housing. I read about this last night after posting here.

Ok! received my Svetlana tubes and they’re in.

The noise was significantly reduced, still can hear it but now its tolerable :). The Svetlana tubes seem a little less bright, but not enough to harm… IMO.

For the record what I did was replace the stock Sovtek 12AX7WA with a couple of Svetlana 12AX7 tubes.

I’m no expert on this field so I don’t know about the differences between the tubes. Maybe some one can tell.

I wonder what EH would think about this!
