Question for the Ring Thing users…
I’m really close to selling my (ahem) EX-7 (really not a horrible pedal) and Keely TR-2 in hopes that I can replace the whammy and trem and have something so I don’t need a morpheus drop tune. When using the Ring Thing for a down tuned (i.e. 2 steps low or as a baritone, etc) do natural and pinch harmonics sound accurate, or glitchy? I’ve yet to find this info in searches. Thanks!
I’ll try to help. If I play a standard tuned guitar with fuzz, pinch harmonics sound good and natural with no glitchiness. I also play “kind of” a baritone guitar. It’s a univox hi-flier bass, which is short-scale with floppy strings in standard tuning, so I use very light bass strings and tune it up to BEAD, so its a lower pitch than a guitar, higher pitch than a bass. I don’t do much pinch harmonics on that instrument but again, its clean and clear with no glitchiness. And I love using it as a tremolo in the ring mod modes. With the expression pedal you can vary the rate. I like this better than a tap trem.
Hey.
Thank you for the info. Really enjoyed your review by the way! That clinches it, listing the old tomorrow, and ordering the new Ring Thing. Can’t wait!!
