Home › Forums › Help/Technical Questions › Question about going from a line out on a keyboard into Effect Pedals
Hello Folks,
I am new to this forum, and this is my first post, so please forgive me if the answer to my question can be found in a previous thread. I checked them but i couldnt find anything.
About a month ago i plugged in my little casiotone WK-110 keyboard into my fender amp and i was having a lot of fun with the effect presets on my amp in combination with the keyboard. I am going to get a keyboard amp so that i preserve some of the lower frequencies that my guitar amp does not produce, and i want to buy a little big muff and a memory boy to use with my casiotone.
My casiotone has a rca line out on the back of it, and i read on Sweetwater that i should not go from the line out directly into the pedal since it could destroy the pedal. Here is the page that claims this: http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/keyboards/keyboard-guitar-pedal.php . About 3/4 down the page it links to a 20 db attenuator that i would need to put between the keyboard and the first pedal.
Do I really need this product? Have any of you used effect pedals with something other than gutiar. I also want to use my ipod touch with the pedal, would I also need to use the attenuator in combination with the ipod and the pedals.
Lastly, would it make more sense to buy guitar effect pedals or bass effect pedals if i plan to use them with a keyboard? I wanted to get the gutiar pedals since i also play guitar and i would be able to also use them with guitar, but i also dont want the pedals to completely squash the frequencies of the my keys. I dont care if the keys sound perfect, I am experimenting with sounds at this point.
thanks!
Nik
I’ve used my line-out from my synth into my pedals many times. I’ve never had a problem.
i’ve used the headphone-out from my Nintendo DS
Funniest thing on earth is using outputs of everything into pedals, like headphones out. I do that with my casio and did it with an iPod, so, it’s fine.
