Home › Forums › Help/Technical Questions › Big Muff Pi pickng up radio stations
Greetings, everyone.
I did a search before posting this but didn’t really find an answer.
I have a Big Muff Pi that’s be picking up radio stations. I’ve tried it with different basses, different cables, different amps, and different outlets. It seems to be the common denominator as when I remove it from the signal chain, it’s no longer an issue. This is a problem because I can’t record with it. Any ideas how to quell that?
Other than that, I LOVE the thing.
Thanks.
~MM
dont know how to fix it… but i know whats wrong… one of the components inside your muff has become microphonic. you can learn more about microphoonics here:

iv had the same issues with a wah pedal… i had it repaired at a store
That’s a hard one – are you using batteries or a power supply? (Did you try it just with a battery? Are you daisy chaining power? Are you using good quality cables? The muff is pretty high gain so any RF from crappy cables is going to get amplified…which isn’t the muff’s fault. When I was a kid, I had a badly shielded cheapie guitar and those cheapie nasty cables, and could get Radio Moscow at certain spots in my room).
Is it an old one or a new one? Have you cleaned the jacks?
Try shoving a 100pF cap on the board input or going from the input jack to ground…I’ve done that in wahs with success in the past.
