As great as the Small Clone, Stereo Polychorus, and the Stereo Clone Theory are, sometimes what I really want in a chorus is a CE-1, which Boss made back in 1976. Since I have no intentions of buying one for thousands on eBay, only to have to figure out how to plug it in (it is not as straight-forward as one would expect), a clone is my best way to go. I know EHX doesn’t make one – theirs is a different school of thought on chorus effects – but who does make one worth buying? And yes, it does need to be analog – I’ve tried the CE-20’s CE-1 settings, and they are simply unacceptable. This isn’t a buy/trade post, but which one would you get?
have a look on ebay for old early-80s chorus pedals; lots of them may have similarities to the Boss CE-1 or have a sound you like even more.
i’ve got quite a few inc. 2x Pearl CH-02, Guyatone PS-013 and PS-023, and a Rayder/Washburn stereo chorus… all are analogue and sound beautiful.
