Hi, I’m a new guy on here folks but not new to EHX pedals. Thanks for having me. I’ve got a really simple question for you. I own an English muff’n which i love and was looking for some tips from you guys on how you use yours? For instance i have a Laney 15 watt tube amp and a Deluxe Strat i run my guitar into a Clyde wah then a Tortuga Neptune, English Muff’n and finally a MXR delay. My English Muff’n came with two 12ay7 in it but i’m going to swap the right one for a 12ax7. So any tricks or tips to get the best out of my pedal would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Also putting an overdrive before the muff’n, using it again as you would the preamp section of an amp and overdriving it sounds amazing. You can get some really nice tones by maxing out the gain on the muff’n and using your guitars volume knob to go from clean to dirty. Using the muff’n as it was intended, as an overdrive in front of a cranked tube amp is the best.
Setting i like:
Volume-9:00-max
Gain-9:00- max
Treble- 9:00-10:00-10:30 <-Single coils/ 10:30-11:00-12:00 <-Humbuckers/P90s
Mid-10:00-12:00-1:00
Bass-10:00-12:00-2:00December 5, 2009 at 8:39 pm #104872englishmuffdiverMemberThanks Owen, i’ve been messing around with the eq settings. The one thing i’m hoping when i swap the 12ay7 for a 12ax7 is a warmer sound. The one fault with my pedal is the treble, it can be unbearable at times.
December 5, 2009 at 8:58 pm #104874owenMemberI have swapped my AY7’S for AX7’S but i ended up just putting the AY7’S back in as i use my muff’n mostly for clean to slightly overdrivin sounds, and with 12ax7’s there was not much clean sound to be found, also i didn’t find it warmed up any. Watch the mid knob on the eq it carries ALOT of highs along with it.

and remember, something that alot of people seem to forget, your guitar has a tone knobDecember 6, 2009 at 9:13 am #104896englishmuffdiverMemberHi Owen cheers for the replies. I only intend replacing the right hand valve with the 12ax7 and leaving the other in place, but if it sounds crappy i’ll put the original back. I will try my MI Audio pedal in front of it to see if i can fatten it up. The trouble with having to keep the eq settings so low is that it limits the pedal a little. Cheers.

ive got the english muff’n and think its an awesome pedal, before i got it, i was running an mxr +, and a boss od3
when i first tried out the muff’n i was so suprised at the amount of different sounds you could get out of it, so it was a definate winner.
the way im currently running it is after my wah, but first od/dis, i have it set to a fairly warm od now, as i also have a big muff. im also running it through a marshall avt150 head and 4×12 cab, and a fender custom telecaster.
i did consider at one time getting another one, because it is just soooo awesome. ive got the original tubes in it, although im lookinh at getting another set of them and replacing them, its had a lot of use.
i cant remember my settings on the top of my head but its something like treble 12, mid 10, bass 8 (oclock)
gain depends on what im using it for but between 9and3 (oclock) -
