I’m wondering what y’all think about the factory Dyna Comp. I own the Boss Compression/Sustainer and it doesn’t seem that great. I want to buy the Dyna Comp but it’s cheaper than the Boss. Is the factory Dyna Comp a great pedal without the mods?

“Ask or answer questions about EHX gear”Sorry mate but this belongs in the lounge.
November 16, 2009 at 6:01 pm #103810electro-melxModeratorbut to answer….
I like the stock dynacomp…. it’s a bit of a ‘one trick poney’ as far as compressors go but if you like what it does then you can’t really go wrong with it.
November 16, 2009 at 6:39 pm #103813Fender&EHX4everModeratorMy usual mantra, despite my EHX preferences, is that you can make any piece of gear sound good if tweaked enough in the right context.
But the BOSS CS-3 was a pedal I didn’t really get along with. I tried, but it just didn’t do what I wanted. I do like a lot of BOSS pedals, just not that one.
The DynaComp is a classic. Not the most subtle compressor, but guitarits like Andy Summers and Edge made it sound great.
Why not a Soul Preacher, White Finger, or Black Finger?
November 16, 2009 at 6:50 pm #103814justubertMemberI do want the Black Finger it’s just a little pricey for my budget right now.

November 21, 2009 at 8:16 am #104011John JMemberyou could get shot… but it’s a silly shot because boss make some damn fine products.
November 21, 2009 at 1:31 pm #104014TenSecondTedMemberI’m sure they make some great products, but I’ve only ever had one boss pedal – a DS-2, and I hated it. It made me sound like Stryper. Maybe I didn’t spend enough time with it before giving it to a mate.

The DS-2 have been around since ’87 so I suppose that sound was pretty popular back then…… but the OD-3 is a great sounding overdive… and I’m a big fan of the HM-2, don’t let the name fool you it’s a great Distortion/fuzz, the FZ-2/FZ-3 and SD-1 are cool too. Like all companies they’ve made great and not so great stuff, but they didn’t get where they are today by continually putting out rubbish and their DD series delays are pretty much the most popular compact digital delays ever, for good reason imo.
November 21, 2009 at 8:57 pm #104043TenSecondTedMemberI resisted the temptation to pick up a black and yellow leotard 😆
I have always been a bit of a tremolo freak though and have often been tempted with a TR-2. I am so happy with my stereo pulsar now though (and I seem to be moving towards an exclusively ehx board) I don’t think I will ever get one.
November 21, 2009 at 9:09 pm #104046electro-melxModeratorlol, go on… you know you want to!
I prefer the Pulsar to the TR-2 myself, the TR-2 sounds good but I like the shaping on the pulsar, it’s much more fun… and the pulsar is a fair bit cheaper too… I think it’s one of the real bargains in the EHX range, it’s a brilliant pedal for the money.

As you imply, by today’s standards it’s not much of a heavy metal pedal. It does give you a nice thick distortion/fuzz though. One of my favorite pedals in my collection.
