I see one for mod depth, is there a speed on anywhere? [I’m not willing to go fishing with store stock]
The stock modulation is pretty unusable by a lot of people who have been trying it out.

I was wondering the same. That would be cool, but if not, then that’s what the Memory Boy is for.

I love it but a lot of people around here are HATING on the Boy modulation section. Blues guys can’t make it work for them….the interaction is a little much for a plug and play dude.
and seriously, the stock mod speed is not good on our store demo. and this is from the weird and wild guitar section at my store.

October 18, 2009 at 12:45 am #102385dmc777MemberSomeone on EHX really needs to get on board and fill us in with the trim pots on these things. I bought the Memory Boy the day it came out and sent it back 3 days later because the modulation was so bad and repeats a longer delay settings were almost inaudible. I didn’t even think about there being any trimpots inside. With some tweaking they can be really good pedals….if we knew what we were tweaking.
October 19, 2009 at 1:15 pm #102411DiamondMemberI like the modulation on my Memory Toy right out of the box. It’s not over the top / seasick as the clip I found on YouTube where the guy adjust it himself.
However, I do get quite some of what I presume is clock noise on delays past about 40%. It’s a bright metalic whistle type sound that gets louder the more I turn up the delay knob. I read that on the Memory Man there is a trimpot you can turn to minimize the noise. Is there also one on the Memory Toy?

October 19, 2009 at 2:47 pm #102414dmc777MemberThat sounds strange. Is this when you’re turning the knob or on the repeats? That being said, I wouldn’t go adjusting in trims until you find out what they are. Even then, I’d be careful.

It’s like I have the delayed sound and besides the delayed sound there is also a whistling noise that comes with the delayed sound. So yeah, with every repeat. The noise is louder if the delay knob is turned up, but it is audible from about 10 o’clock. It gets annoying after 12 o’clock.
October 20, 2009 at 2:00 pm #102448Flick (EHX Staff)ModeratorOn the Memory Toy, there is a trim pot to adjust the modulation depth but not the modulation rate. The trim is labeled as TRIM8. There is an arrow pointing to TRIM8 with a bit of text on the PCB that says “Mod Depth.”
Turn TRIM8 clockwise to decrease the modulation depth. You’ll need a small screwdriver to do this and may want to start without power connected first. Once you have a good grasp on turning TRIM8 then you can apply power and listen to how the Mod depth changes as you turn TRIM8.
I recommend you do not touch any other trim pots unless you really know what you’re doing.
October 20, 2009 at 3:11 pm #102450Flick (EHX Staff)ModeratorThe Memory Boy does not have any trim pots inside to adjust modulation. All the adjustments are brought out to the surface of the unit.
For both units we have been making improvements in their calibration. We found early on that we tended to calibrate them too lean, meaning the signal out of the BBD chips was too quiet which results in quiet delay in some units and unable to runaway when Feedback is maxed.

Okay thanks for the response. I did not turn any trimpot. As I said, I liked the mod depth straight out of the box.
What I want to know is: is it normal for the Memory Toy to have some added white noise to the repeats after about 10-11 o’clock or should I send it back?
I really really like the sound of this delay pedal, but the noise can be annoying.

It is normal with most analog delays for some white noise to be added to the delayed signal. The longer the delay time the more noise. It’s hard to say if your unit is worse than other Memory Toys without hearing it but yes the added white noise is normal.
Have you had other analog delays or is this your first. If you’re moving from digital delays to an analog one I could see how this noise would sound wrong.

I played an Ibanez DML for years, but it broke down last week during rehearsal, so I ordered this one. Like I said, sounds awesome! I’ll see if I can make a clip or something. That should answere a good bit of questions for those of us whom are curious about the pots as well as sell a few pedals!
Diamond…white noise, or a slight staticy noise is normal for an analog delay. You said it had a whistling noise. Like flick said, it’s hard for anyone to know without hearing your pedal but I’d bet it’s fine.
Bummer about the ibanez dlm…they’re actually really good delays.

I was afraid to hear that there is no speed trim. The mod section is really turning people off the pedal, along with the inconsistent nature of them at this point. Nice to hear these issues are being looked into.
