    Hi,
A query regarding EHX power supplies. I’ve been looking at the manuals for a number of EHX pedals (HOG, Riddle, Holy Stain, Voice Box) and it states the following regarding power supplies:

WARNING: Use only the 9VDC/500mA AC adapter supplied with the HOG. Do not use any other AC adapters. Using other AC adapters, even those made by Electro-Harmonix, could cause harm to the unit, the adapter or you. The HOG does not use batteries.

I am in Australia, so if I purchase over the Internet, either from eBay or an online retailer, I am likely to get a 120v power supply, which won’t play nice with our 240v power over here.
I’d like to know if the HOG and other pedals which state the warning in their manuals do really require the correct EHX power supply, as I’ve heard other brands (Boss for one) say that you should use their adaptors, but they work fine with any musician spec’d power supply.

    thanks,

As long as you’re using a good quality power supply with the correct voltage, same or greater current capacity and correct plug/polarity I don’t think there would be any problems. That’s mostly a disclaimer to protect themselves against people who have no idea what they’re doing.

respect the voltage, the current type (AC or DC), and the polarity, and all should be fine. The HOG works fine with my Pedal Power 2+, but I have to use a special adapter for it because of its polarity.

Is the hogs polarity different from other pedals?

Well, so does say manual for my SMMH and there was no damage when I plugged in the Carl Martin Powerjack

besides that weird noise and rytmical tapping of tempo LED… the Powerjack isn’t really high end piece of adapter so it’s understandable… thats why I use the EHX power adapter
