    hey,

    i recently got a new standard big muff, but i’ve got a little problem with it. although it’s a new model (i checked to make sure it was the newest one by taking a look inside), the true bypass doesn’t seem to work. the pedal works fine when activated, however when i turn it off the signal is still affected and actually diminishes a great deal (i even measured it). also, when i turn the volume knob down all the way, it basically turns the signal off or at least makes it so weak that it’s inaudible. it also makes it impossible to play live without having the big muff on at all times.

    i’d really appreciate it if you guys could help me out,

    Sounds like it’s not wired correctly. Could you post some gut shots?

    It looks wired correctly in the pic. I’d have to guess a bad switch.

    It’s a 3PDT footswitch. If the pedal’s new EH will fix it under warranty.

    i bought it last winter in the usa but i moved to germany and didn’t send in the warranty card in the 10 days. is there still a way to send it somewhere?

    also, i tested the switch and it seems fine. it seems to be the electronics-were there other similar cases and if yes, how can you fix it?

    I don’t understand what’s going on there. The wiring in the pic looks OK, you said the switch tests OK.
    Another possibility is a solder short on the switch between the lugs where the wire connects from the Volume pot and the wire from the output jack (the green and the yellow wires in your pic). That would cause the symptoms you describe. Take a look there and see if you can find any excess solder.

    W/ the pedal in the off position, take a meter and measure resistance between those 2 points. With the pedal off, it should be infinite resistance.

    i measured that and it was 0 ohms but im not sure if i measured it 100 percent correctly. also measured btw. input and output, and that was 2 megaohms. what should it normally be?

    the soldering points where fine.

    Measuring at the switch with the pedal in the off position you should have infinite resistance. When it’s on you’ll have 0 ohms.

    yea i thought it should be infinite too but somehow it was 0.

    do you think that something really is wrong with footswitch? i mean, i tested it and it seemed fine. or would it work if i put in a 4 part switch instead of the 3 part one?

    I’d say you’ve got a bad switch, then. You should be able to find someone locally to replace it or you can buy a new switch and install it yourself. It’s pretty simple.

    it ended up being the switch; i replaced it and now it works fine.

    I’m having the same symptoms with my Usa Big Muff. Thanks for the advice, need to change the switch. Hopefully it works for me too! :)
