Got my English Muff’n today! Yay! Man this thing is hot! I’ve already been playing around with different tube combos and like two 12ay7s the best. I think with two 12ax7s it gets too fizzy , and one 12ay7 cascading into a 12ax7 sounds better than the two 12ax7s but lacks the clarity of the 12ay7s.
Its a bloody masterpiece!
…and here is my first attempt at making a vid, its not really a demo…just me wankin’ with the Muff’n but my mic stopped working so I had to use my laptop webcam and the quality is poor. Remember I’m only 16 and am no Gearmanndude so be nice :worried:

hey hey
i have the english muff and im really impressed with it
i tried mine with the settings in the pic you have an yh it sounds good
mine is currently set at
vol 11-2 (depending on whati m using it for)
gain 2 to full
high 10-12
mid 10-12
low 9
i think its an awesome pedal
had a slight problem at the start when channeling it with my other pedals but thats because if i engaged the boss od3 it would sound very like i was underwater you know ? but i changed the signal path and some variations on my amp too
marshall avt150
clean setting was gain n vol at 12
but i changed it to gain at 6-9 oclock and vol full, just change the master depending depending where im playing and now it sounds awesome
it still sounded awesome anyways
any looking ot buy this pedal
defo get it you will not be disapointed
just fiddle with the settings to find the perfect sound u want and ull be amazed at this pedal !!!

How agressive is it gain wise? Can it do more modern rock/metal tones as well or is it just vintage british sounding?
If it basically gets no more aggressive than an old jtm 45 then I will probably skip it.
Afterall if I want classic british tone my Laney half stack and stereo Ac30’s have that in spades.
By itself it won’t do modern rock /metal but if you have an overdrive/boost pedal to get the gain up then use an EQ pedal after to tailor it, you’ll be good to go!
Alternatives are:Blackstar pedals and the sleeper pedal of the century- the AMT FREAK GUITAR PEDAL – 2 tubes, high voltage, modern grind, sweepable mids ala Krank switchable OD/DIST.
I just got a Black Finger & I noticed that once it gets up & running the tubes definitely have some glow on them. However, my English Muff dosen’t glow at all. Has anyone else noticed this? I’m just wondering if the glow is a good thing or not so good, although I would think with the power these tubes are receiving they should have a bit of glow happening.
Thanks for the info. Also, anyone have a suggestion for tubes? I’m looking for an upper-mid-range tube without a lot or no bottom end. I’m going for a clean clear singing sustain with little breakup for my lead tone. I’m not even sure what kind of tube to put in what position on the pedal since I’m really sure what each one is doing……………
Here’s an update: I got some 5693 tubes ( I think ) & they sound fantastic. A lot more tone variation & more range from the knobs before total breakup. To me the original tubes were harsh & broke up so early that the GAIN knob wasn’t usable beyond about 12 o’clock. Also, I am using this before my Orange TT Combo & with the tube changes in the combo for a more clean tone I now have a lot more room to play around with the tones of both before breakup. Really nice & I love my EM now. Couldn’t live without it unless EHX comes up with a better version…………..
