So, g’day!!
Some folks here might recognise me from Harmony Central. I thought I’d join so I can learn more about Electro Harmonix effects, share my experiences with EHx pedals, learn tips, post clips & videos, and pics too.
Below is a photo of my current pedalboard. It’s a bit messy at the moment, all the cables are like spaghetti! I’ll be building a proper board soon to house all of my pedals, in the future.
My two EHx pedals, are a POG and the Deluxe Electric Mistress. I use the POG for organ sounds and strange octavey stuff, and the Mistress is my chief chorusing unit for clean tones, it’s so thick, syrupy, and very ethereal.
The other pedals are a Visual Sound H2O Liquid Chorus & Echo (I use that for atmospheric stuff with the POG, good for spooky organ’ed echo trails), the TC Electronic Stereo Chorus/Flanger (mostly with distortion, accentuating particular frequencies when chorusing, big wide sound), the Danelectro Fish & Chips EQ, Boss DD-20 delay, and that’s about it at the moment!
Oh, the little Marshall MS-2 Mini-Stack was there as I was using it like a distortion pedal. Marshall-in-a-box!
My amplifiers are a Mesa/Boogie MarkIV, an Engl Fireball, and a Roland Jazz Chorus 120.
My usual signal chain is Guitar->Mistress->SCF->(left)->POG->H2O->DD20 left->Fireball, (SCF right)->DD20 right->MarkIV. I run the Jazz Chorus from the dry output of the H2O.
At the moment I need to get my switching sorted out.Cheers folks and I’ll see you round.

nice to see you here, as you might have realised big pictues here need to be resized or they get cropped, there’s nothing worse than the thread getting stretched halfway across the room is there!!??

G’day Melx
Yep, thanks for the tip mate. I fixed it now. That pic is actually three times as big originally, hehe.

lol…man, you like your chorus eh?
How does the H20 compaire to others? I’ve never tried a visual sound pedal, they just aren’t that plentiful in the UK and you almost never see used ones around…..I’m also one of the people who actually like thier new designs!!

Haha, yeah there’s just something about that effect that really grips me… Funnily enough one of my favourite examples is the chorus/flanged bass guitar in Tool’s 1996 song “46 & 2”, rather than multitudes of 80’s radio hits. Of course though early Mercyful Fate is another big influence and they layered the chorus on more than Michael Landau!
I have plans to make my own Leslie system too! I have the treble horn & a compression driver, just need to put it all together.
I really like the H2O. It gets a bit “swooshy” when you use higher gain, yet my cabling is atrocious so no wonder it’s picking up a lot of noise. For the past few months due to work I’ve just been jamming at home so I’m not worried about it at the moment.
I really like that it has a dedicated delay time control- you get the chorus either light or nice and “gooey” (that detuned sound), without the pre-delay stutter. This makes it very useful because you can change the character of the chorus, so it’s a lot more than just slow & phasey or fast throbbing wobble. In fact keeping the width a bit mild and turning up the delay time, with a slow rate, is a great sound. I still play around with the settings. At the moment I use it for the more ambient atmospheric stuff- the Echo is for loooooooooooonnnnnnggg droning repeating echo trails. And also I use it to thicken/chorus up the organ sound from the POG.
I’ll play around with it more over the next few days to give you more feedback.
I haven’t tried out the newer design H2O, or the single-pedal Liquid Chorus.
January 15, 2009 at 4:59 pm #90809electro-melxModeratorCheers….I used to have a DOD chorus with a delay time knob that was pretty nice sounding and very versatile. Chorus is about the only thing I don’t really have covered at the moment, I could just go back to the small clone (which I do love the sound of) but it might be nice to try something a little more tweekable before I settle back on the clone…..I’m kinda hoping EHX bring an XO polychorus out soon because I think that might be what I’m really looking for.

I just sold my clone theory, it didn’t sound as nice as the small clone to me.
September 11, 2009 at 8:49 pm #101386TheCapitalJMemberme too, it would be great to have an XO polychorus because then my cables wouldn’t be a mess and it would fit in my setup.
