Home › Forums › The Lounge › is EH responsible for the new Gold Lion reissues?
well, i heard a rumour
yes, the Gold Lion brand is owned by New Sensor and made in their Russian factory.
but they aren’t the same as EHX branded valves. New Sensor obtained the original tube by Marconi-Osram-Valve Co and reverse-engineered it.
“Gold plated grid wire, carbonized screen grids, and a tri-alloy clad plate structure” pretty much the same contruction as the originals, although “improvements in the tooling available to manufacture tubes has led to a reworked internal structure that is aimed at providing better support for the materials, and also reduces the risk of microphonics” …..and by all reports they are some of the best new valves around.
luckily, they don’t carry the price of the originals!!
btw, it’s never been a rumour, it was widely reported on websites/in the press at the time they were released that New Sensor were making them…it’s no secret!! (I expect Mike is pretty proud of them!)
(quotes from “New Sensor’s Technical Representative”)
Yes it is… Genalex GOLD LION Tubes are part of the New Sensor family. There are KT66 – KT77 – KT88 – and the infamous N709/EL84 GENALEX. You can now get these great tubes and have your amp thanking you for doing a great service. Enjoy.
mmm, i may give the 84s a whirl
Awww, man… Now I want 88s on my 5F6A…
