    I love this little guy. . .
    lots and lots of cool sounds
    I love the echo smearing on the echo sounds
    the reverse setting is awesome (and the secret sample hold filter and ring mod settings on the reverse setting are a nice bonus)

    but the main thing I use this pedal is for the looping.

    I love the loop manipulation it offers for the price- pitch shifting, tap tempo, reverse. All cool stuff.

    Cons are
    -no rate control in modulation mode
    -no undo on loops
    -you have to hold down the switch to loop (although I sort of like this in someways, I don’t have to remember where to move my foot to)
    -mix control is a bit finicky- hard to find the perfect setting

    Some things I wish it had:
    better foot control over the loops- a 6 button extra pedal like the HOG, 2880, and 16SD have would have been awesome. Or an expression pedal input.

    Basically the way I use mine right now is that I run it full wet (I split the signal right before it, one goes to amp, one goes to the SMMH) and then I have a volume pedal after it.

    I can then control echo, reverb, and loop volume with my foot. Which makes me happy. I like to cue up loops and unleash chaotic bursts of noise.

    So fun.

    I love my SMMH.

    One of the best delays ever IMO, I can’t comment on the DMM as I haven’t tried one but I would bet its as good as the SMMH. You know on the SMMH if you have it on 300ms+mod you can tap the delay time in and get around 600ms? its a neat little hidden feature.

    It’s got a bunch of little things that aren’t really in the manual.

    Like the ooh-way/sample and hold setting. . .

    (didn’t you post one in the SMMH thread? I did too, but nobody seemed to notice it when I posted it)

    The SMMH is definitely the most fun pedal I have. There’s just so many wacky things you can do with it. I just finished a series of posts about all the pedals I currently use, including the Haz, on my blog if anyone’s interested. :)

    The Haz seems pretty cool (really cool even) but I like me some analog delay. That thing sounds like it would be fun just to mess around with, but I don’t think that someone as simple as myself could find an application for some of the more crazy features. I just like the simple, 3 knob delays. MXR Carbon Copy is the best analog for the price (it may be the only analog for the price).

    To each their own. Personally I use my SMMH mainly as a looper and don’t use much delay, but when I want to it sounds damn fine to me.

    BTW There are cheaper analog delays than the MXR carbon copy, you just got to look around good and hard. Though they probably won’t have as much delay time. Also, Malekko’s coming out with a new analog delay for 159 that may give the carbon copy a run for its money.

    when it was released, i watched the demo video and thought it looked/sounded really cool but was a bit ‘effect-y’ for me. i held off for ages until i eventually bought one last year.

    the Haz has become a permanent fixture on my main board.

    i’m not a big delay user – a Boss DM-3 is my main delay (also have an Akai Headrush and Guyatone 12-Bit) and i don’t often find uses for overly processed ‘effect-y’ sounds but i find the Haz to be a very inspirational pedal. i often record a little loop then build a song around it… the original loop may not end up in the song but it can push me in directions i wouldn’t normally go..
    other times i record a loop, then reverse it, or pitch-shift it or whatever and go in another direction.

    then there are the more usual delay and reverb sounds, modulation, the reverse ( :love: ) and one of my favourite settings gives a cello-like ‘bowed’ effect.

    what i’m trying to say is that, like yourself, i prefer simple pedals but the Haz is definitely worth checking out.
    despite what other people say, i don’t find it that hard to use either. maybe i just clicked with it when other people take longer to get to grips with how the controls work in each mode.

    People who say its hard to use simply played it for a few minutes without reading the manual in the store.

    And I’d agree with Kevin- the original video did make it sound “effect-y” but upon playing it, it sounds very natural.

    When you guys refer to the “original video”, do you mean Michael Leonhart’s video?

    I have not seen a video of the SMMH direct from EHx.

    yeah, that’s the one i meant.

    that was the first demo i saw prior to the release of the Haz.

    (and it is classified as an ‘Official EHX Video’ on the product page.)

    I agree with Julian that the SMMH is a very versatile and natural-sounding looper. I find it really useful when working on songs. If you get a sudden idea such as a chord pattern with a lead part on top, you can put it all in the SMMH in seconds then check it out with a bass part etc. Really useful. The lack of precise control(s) on the loop and all the settings, in fact, is pure Electro Harmonix (like the sliders on the EQ-Fuzz and Micro Synths) however it is also part of the EHX magic, and when you read the Manual and actually practice with the SMMH the results are amazing, and,above all, a true expression of the musician rather than a series of supermarket pre-sets!
