I just discovered this Brooklyn band. They might be my favorite newish band right now. “Time to Pretend” is definitely the best pop/rock recording I’ve heard in a very long time. Great lyrics.
This is their performance on Late Night with Letterman:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqzoRQv2UIUAt the end of the video you’ll see the Deluxe Memory Man on the keyboard while the keyboardist is playing the organ riff from “Light My Fire”
 :rawk:
Here’s the official video, which is brilliant IMO: http://www.court13.com/TimeToPretend_480.mov

That is a DMM isn’t it, and not a Deluxe Electric Mistress?

Yeah, I think they could be the next biggest US band if they can put out another single as good as “Time to Pretend” on the next album. I just hope they don’t burn out too fast. Their humor is great, and their hooks kill.

November 13, 2008 at 3:38 pm #87431FUZZ (EHX Staff)MemberThe Deluxe Memory Strikes Again!!! This time on a Nord Lead Keyboard…. Not only does it work on guitar and bass, also on keys! Why not throw a mic into it and modulate your own voice and delay it accordingly. EHX does it again….
FUZZ

I can’t say that it really did anything for me though, sorry………it’s a pity there isn’t a better shot of the pedal boards, I’d bet there was some ehx on there somewhere!

Yep, I was pretty sure that they wouldn’t appeal to you. They probably lean a bit too far to the campy discosynth side for your comfort 😆
I’ll also bet they use more EHX.
Best quote from the interview below: “It’s weird that we’re opening up for like Radiohead, and I’m still trying to figure out which pedals to use.”

lol, I thought they were ok until I heard the studio recording!! but when I watched that video it made more sense that you’d like them…..I thought the whole thing was very Bowie influenced….and yeah a bit too synthy for me, it needed louder guitars for me!! :metal:

December 3, 2008 at 3:39 am #88162jubbMemberThe studio version is great.. live, not so much.
This is fueling my gas for a DMM though. So is the Jack Conte National Anthem cover.
edit: I found one on ebay and bought it. I couldn’t resist. Hopefully it’ll be here by Saturday.

I love Dave Fridmann’s production on it. I agree that they don’t yet have their live act honed to sound as sweet as the studio recordings.
December 8, 2008 at 4:56 pm #88695jubbMemberBTW DMM should be in my hands by the end of the day.
