I have been having an issue with my Super Switcher that is really getting to be past unacceptable! I am hoping there is some sort of work around.
Firstly this has happened with various Power supplies I am currently running a Zuma which is providing 500ma which is well within the 200ma required.I have had numerous PS along the way including a lower budget isolated (not really isolated) PS like a Donner and One spot adapter which is 1700ma that I have tried in a non daisy chain mode meaning this was the only thing it was powering. All yielding the same results. I can’t imagine the Zuma or Ojai is the issue because for 1 it happens with all PS and 2 it is very quiet and I know it should be working fine. The issue are as follows.
There are times when the switcher simply Freezes up! It will either not go into or release from Tuning mode. Once I unplug and replug and its back.
I also have a severe volume drop that again is only fixed when i plug the unit in and out again!
While its nice that it holds the program during a power loss I can’t imagine any gigging musician could tolerate this.I have a number of pedals and its critical to me that in bypass It sounds and reacts as close to plugging in a cable directly to the head as possible when bypassing everything. This works fantastically when its working. Midi, Boost, Buffer, Clock, Send/Receive PC/CC Messages are all functioning well and I love the features.
Suggesting to me this is because I am not using a dedicated EH PS is something I would find very hard to believe. Again as I’m trying to keep the original unaltered sound of my Marshall 1987 a Switcher is critical. Most non isolated Power Supplies are noisy and I can even hear a one spot plugged in and even not connected to a pedal so I do not want any sort of wal wart type Power Supplies in my system.
I was recording yesterday and after an hour or so I noticed the volume drop again as soon as I reset the unit all was well. I have a very large board and custom cables I made to run with this switcher. Having to purchase another switching system from another vendor would be both costly as well as time consuming. This unit was purchased used and the problem not something that is immediately noticed. There is no warranty and truthfully if I had to send this in for repair and had to be without a switching system for any length of time I would be looking to another manufacturer but I cant really afford to do that currently.
Have others experienced this issue?
Work Around?
Firmware update? Is this just a limitation or design flaw?
November 18, 2021 at 4:10 pm #186232lamusicianParticipantI just ordered an official EH 9.6vdc adapter in hopes this clears things up. I am still concerned about having a wall wart back in my rig, but if it fixes the Freeze issues I can live with some noise and who knows maybe it will be quiet??
I will update next week

I purchased my Super Switcher from Sweetwater on eBay about 6-8 months ago. It was a used demo. I am having the same freeze-up issue described above. I’ve used it about 40 hyours so far, and 3-5 times, after about an hour of playing, all of the controls become unresponsive. Also, it does not freeze on the current settings, lately mostly Instant Access 1 (IA1), messing around with pedal combinations live. Before it freezes, most all of setting change, and it displays something like 110 on the main display, pedal selections change, CTRL 1 lights up (I normally use that as momentary switch to trigger Alesis SR-16), and even the Tap LED stops flashing. Complete freeze.
Iammusicican – did you have to get yours repaired, or did the power supply switch make a difference? I am already using the EHX 9.6v PS.
