I think people tend to stereotype and be overly negative. While there are a few bad apples here and there, I think that most of the XO and Nano stuff is pretty good.

I’d also note that the only pedal that’s gone digital is the Electric Mistress, I’m not sure why. All the other digital pedals would be impossible to do analog or prohibitively expensive.

In the cases of the Worm and Muffs, the XO pedals are improvements over the big counterparts.

Best policy is always try before you buy though.

Unfortunately I don’t know much about MIDI controllers. I know there is one that I really really want in the MOOG MP-201 (because it also has a programmable expression pedal, analog CV outs, and a multi-waveform LFO with tap tempo.) But it is also really expensive. :(

There are behringer and yamaha ones that aren’t too expensive, but I don’t know any of the specifications of them.

If I were to get the 2880, personally I’d probably get a midi controller or the foot switch. Only real reason not to use the foot controller is if you’re using it as an instrument along with turntables or have a mixer running into it so that you can loop other performers.

Definitely lots of good music from Ohio- DEVO, Pere Ubu, and the Breeders to name a few.

I sort of think the music culture of Ohio is a reaction to the state itself.

I can’t say I like the sound of Big Muff into DOD-250 or vice versa.

I’ve been trying to really get my nephew into music. I got him a little 2 string guitar, I’ve let him play my synth, my drums, sing, and use my pedalboard.

I remember him really enjoying Polysics before he could even walk.

Now that I think about it, that’d be an amazing effect, because the ratio between the voices would be different at different points along the sweep.

Say you’ve got the +1 octave and +2 octave sliders up and you’re bending up from a 440A.

1 octave up is 880, 2 octaves up is 1760 hz.

So when you have the expression half-cocked, one voice would be at 660, which is close to an E. The other voice would be at C#.

So when you’d sweep up you’d sweep through a multitude or dissonant, consonant, and microtonal chords, and probably get some mean torn speaker type throbs in there too.

I kind of just want EH to make a Micro HOG- 4-5 sliders with a few different voices, and then all the expression modes. I think for the “freezer” having octave down would be a must for me.

    I’d love that!

And with an EXP pedal jack which does whammy .. per voice! So say you have +1 octave and +3rd, it starts with both at 0 .. and slides them up like the whammy would when you pushdownthe EXP pedal. :D

Apart from that, I just want this nice and simple one I mocked up:

    m0jomockupsehxmicrohog.th.jpg

You need to put an expression mode button and expression direction on there and dry out as well.

When you talk about the whammy, do you mean that it would pitch up from the original signal to whatever slider you have it set up, or it would just increase in volume? I guess this would be in addition to the step and octave bend modes, which simply bends every voice from the starting point.

And + 5th isn’t useless. I love it. Use down octave bend + a 5th and suddenly you’ve got baritone tones!!!

Yeah, jacks on top would be awesome for board space.

So you’re talking about the actual sound of your foot clicking on the switch right? Not a pop coming through the speakers?

You could use a midi switcher.

Hi, my name is Mariana, i’m from Brasil.
I got the same problem, my hog distorted the
sound of my guitar. I have tried many things,
and tried to talk with EHX too, but nobody help me.
They said that i’m not american, if i want a repair,
i have to pay the fix and the ship. Even covered by the warranty.
It’s an absurd! Now i got this U$ 500 loss. I am seling my other
pedals by EHX, it’s not a trust brand. I got other pedals(Dr Scientist,
Xotic, Barber, Eventide, Empress effecys, Mid-fi…)any problem that i have,
they solve. By the way, planet waves
gave me a PW-CT-04 Chromatic Pedal Stage Tuner, they kept, analyze
and realize that got a problem. It’s all about ethic.
    Regards,
    Mariana.

Does it distort your guitar when off, on, or both off and on?

Did you send in the warranty card right after buying the pedal?

Did you try talking to the store you bought it from?

Are you using the correct power supply?

Did you try turning down the input gain? (slider all the way on the left)

Did you try running the HOG all by itself?

    Did you try different cables?

Did you try lowering your pickups on your guitar? (having them too high can distort some buffers, and also is just unnecessary)

While it does use 9v, it’s best not to daisy chain it. It’s a high current consuming pedal, and when you couple those with some low current ones, it usually makes for some noise.

Sounds like it might be time for you to make a pedalboard though ;) It makes things a LOT easier.

I’d say that a trimpot has probably drifted out of alignment. I’m not sure if it’s something you can fix by yourself (you need an oscilloscope to adjust some trimpots) but if you can, I’m sure EHMan will drop in here and explain how.

I love Deerhoof. They’ve inspired me to write more whimsical guitar rhythms, to let my guitar meander a little bit. Not everything has to be straight up and straight out full on all the time.
