violins typically have lots of harmonics [in synth terms, I suppose]; you’ll get many more tones available with some sort of filter pedal [EHX makes a ton of these but ones that spring to mind are the Tube Zipper, the Qtron+, and the Microsynth]

when you had it in a pedal line [as opposed to solo], you were using a daisy chain right? like, one of the 1spot multitap addon things?

I mean, at that point, it would have to be part of the physical jack or cable-end, right? something where the daisy chain was hitting a contact and not the 1spot plug?

how’s the PN-2 stack up to the Stereo Pulsar or the Alesis Ampliton? think it’d be worth it for me to snipe one on ebay if i’ve got one of the others?

also, what’s the compression ratio on the vox compressor? is it a ‘clean’ compressor or more dynacomp-y?

    ^Mogwai still uses that vocoder
    like
    they pride themselves on it

it sounds to me like they run the vocoder into a talk box. there’s aspects of each in the vocal performance. and I have no idea how to use one of those V256 things.

    nice!
The only homemade pedal I own, excluding a bypass looper, I didn’t make but it’s a bitcrusher called the “Wrong Side of Uranus”. It is quite the sound mangler in a way a distortion could never quite nail for me.

    awesome!
I kind of wish I had something like that- I use an electribe er-1mkII for my beats, and while it is really great and easy to use, every time I use midi I feel like I am cheating at music.
That said, I used to make beats by synchronizing [by ear] a couple old DOD RDS units on repeat hold mode so I guess I have credibility to burn.

an EHX switchblade with the jacks modded to stereo?

otherwise maybe a ‘clear cv’ button for the one with the cable half in. would just need to be a spst momentary that opens the circuit when you hit it.

I would just like to say that Moog and Korg’s digital clipping sounds really good and rowdy, as does intentionally overloading the 2880 [thereby making it the most expensive distortion I own].

    hooray diodes

just reading that, wouldn’t it be S-Trigger? because your hand is shorting the cable’s signal and ground?

    also, i’m jealous. just sayin’.

thank you! one of my guitarist buddies told me he really notices the difference when he uses gold-tipped pedal couplers for his pedalboard. I have both and I don’t hear any difference in sound quality at all. Nothing’s quieter than the other or anything like that.

well all I can say to that is… if people hear a difference fine, enjoy your gold tipped plugs, if you don’t (like me and you) then we can save a bit of money by not bothering. ;)

the sockets they go into in the pedals aren’t gold plated … the socket in your guitar isn’t gold plated, the socket in the amp isn’t gold plated and your signal goes though all these places, so why not gold plate those too if it has such a dramatic effect?

    This.
Plus the gold plating scrapes off quicker than nickle plating so if you’re going to just leave something set up [like a stereo], it’s fine, but if it’s something you’re setting up and tearing down all the time, you’ll wear through your cables quicker than the standard nickle plating.
