I recently nabbed a second hand 44 magnum and testing it with my 2×12 (1 V30 + 1 Greenback) it seems very muddy on it`s own at lowish volumes. I primarily bought it to use at band practices as I can`t be bothered taking my Marshall rig. Now admittedly I thrown an EQ pedal in front of it, along with various dirt pedals and got some good tones.
I was just wondering if the amp is naturally darkmuddy or whether this one is slightly defective?
I personally thought it sounded a little on the muddy side when using by itself and going past nine o’clock but then again it’s only a power amp with no preamp. I use a few pedals to give it a nice little shove and never need to go past nine o’clock and it will shake the room and barely break up but going over nine o’clock it seems to start breaking up and I’m not fond of the way it breaks up myself.
