Hi from France.I own more than 20 E-H pedals old and new and I’ve got a question for techs: one of my first pedals the Deluxe Big Muff Pi purchased in the late 70’s has a low freq hum. When I bought it the other one available in the shop had the same hum, so I thought like the seller that it was normal. I always use it as it’s my favorite BM Pi. I made a google search and could see and hear on YouTube the same one with absolutely NO hum ! I also read somewhere that it was a known problem on some early series that could easily be repaired. On an old site Howard Davies wrote years ago he could repair this but didn’t want to accept overseas boxes, and anyway I don’t want to send it anywhere, love it too much ! I remember he wrote “I make a mod that completely eliminates this hum”.
My model is the one with the Blend switch, PCB : EH 3053 C . I cannot find its schematic diagram, nor the mod that should be done to suppress this permanent low frequency hum. Maybe it could only come from the lack of filtering condensers, or a defective series of ac transformers ?? All I know is mine wasn’t the only one to have this little flaw. I hope someone will be able to help me repair it for its fortieth anniversary !
Happy new year to everybody here.

Hi… I’am answering to myself as I found something new and I’m still hoping someone will help me. It seems that 3053C was the first model and that the hum was suppressed on the following model which was 3054 A, this model being very easy to find on Ebay. I recently could find the schematic diagram for 3053C but unfortunately not for the 3054A. So if someone has a link fot the 3054A schematic, or more info about how to suppress the hum on the 3053C thanks. Didier (Frandid).

It seems that the Deluxe BMP 3053C is not very popular but as there are so many New and Old Big Muff models on the market it would be great for everybody to know WHICH models have the low frequency hum and which models DON’T have the low frequency hum. Everybody could write here I own BMP model x I like the sound because… and it has or doesn’t have the hum. I am saying this because I recently discovered that several modern models have the hum ! It is easy to check : Put the sustain control at 10, average volume on pedal and amp or desk, flat eq, play then stop playing for 10 seconds with all controls on guitar at 10 and tell us if you hear a hhuuuuuuuuuuuum or not ! Beware of feedback and if you have a single coil guitar make sure there is no interference from a heater or neon light.
